The art of good government

Found this while browsing, hits a lot of nails on the head for me; as though the multi-nationals would ever allow it!

THE ART OF GOOD GOVERNMENT:
Protection without Oppression
Where there is Injury, there must be Protection.
Where there is no Injury,
there is neither cause nor justification
for the interference of law and the exercise of its power.

Democracy currently offers two choices: Right or Left, Blue or Red, Rich or Poor, Bosses or Workers. As long as government represents sectional interests, each seeking advantage at the expense of the other, we will never have Good Government. And indeed, that government has failed us is widely recognized. Time now to start from basic principles and ask: What is government for, what should we expect of it, and can we produce a form of governance for everyone, without class or sectarian bias?

I understand the meaning of good government but it will never happen we all want different things and greed is a killer.

If you have money in the bank you may think that it belongs to you. It doesn’t. Lord Cottenham’s Ruling in 1848 remains substantially true today: “Money, when paid into a Bank, ceases altogether to be the money of the depositor; it is then the money of the Banker... to do with it as he pleases.....”

Because we accept without thought or question the need for a financial framework, it is natural to assume that the Banking System which currently provides that framework is part of the national infrastructure in the service of the nation – like the public utilities, water, power, and sewage disposal (used to be). And we blame the Banking System when its members act irresponsibly, building up huge gambling losses which require taxpayer bailouts.

But the banks are not a part of the nation’s infrastructure, working to serve the nation and its citizens. The banks are private companies, in business to maximize profits, if possible on a quarterly basis, for their directors and shareholders, prompting them to engage in ever more risky and obscure ventures during periods of economic growth, and to reduce or eliminate loans during recessions. So much for service to country. And let the depositor beware!

Mike wherever that came from it is spot on, the dollar and pound used to be valued on gold reserves the USA have sold their reserves I don't know about the UK, in the banking crises a couple of years back the local Banks in NZ (Aussie owned save for two) were at the point of collapse so to avoid a complete with drawl by depositors the Government had to guarantee the deposits (our government not the Aussie) this did the trick and avoided a collapse, the guarantee has since been removed but you could loose all your savings over night.
I try not to worry about it but it remains at the back of your mind. Our present Government has sold a lot of our state assets to overseas companies against public opinion and it has privatised our utilities it has only taken the about 5 years to do this ?? they are driven by ideology and not good government.
