• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

I have been using the settings shown in the attached pictures and running GO without issue on both organs. Thanks again for all the help!!!

The screenshots look old (pre GO 1296) - GO 17xx is already available.
And you configured GO to use only one processor core.

I never checked the Testing folder. I can get the organ sounding great with 1261, but not the latest version, at least not on this single processor computer. 1261 will be fine for me at this time.

I'm getting the same sort of sound distortion, the PC has an AMD A10-6800 quad core 8GB RAM running WIn7 Pro 64 bit. When I try changing the Audio settings the settings menu locks up and I have to exit GO. It has now got to tha state where if I try and "Play MIDI! the keys are played but no sound, the volume indicator moves, I don't get any sound either now when clicking on any key.

I will try reinstalling GO and hope!

Further to the above, I uninstalled 1694 and downloaded 1735 (win64); 1735 locks up on start up showing a partially blanked Audio/MIDI panel even though I have not had a chance to click on anything, so I uninstall 1735, reinstall 1694, which opens initially, but still no sound, and as before opening Audio/MIDI causes lock up.

I have tried system restore twice, (that fails too!) I've deleted GO caches and anything else I can find associated with GO in the hope of getting a clean install but no joy, somewhere it has stored info on the last organ loaded.

Can I have GO2 back, that worked fine for me!

I installed 1694, and had similar sound problems, tried a few of the remedies above without much improvement, I reduced the number of stops as low as 6 still not completely cured. Tried altering the audio settings and on clicking OK everything locked up "Not Responding", had to exit GO.

Restarted GO, no sound output at all, so tried to restore original Audio settings, locked up again.

So I uninstalled 1694, installed 1735 (64 bit) on opening that immediately showed the Audio/Midi settings window and locked up.

Next tried downloading GO2, again no sound. I've tried deleting the GO cache and data in My Docs but previous organs are still being loaded automatically when loading a newly installed GO, so it would seem that I've not managed to find all the stored data, and the lack of sound may be due to that data.

Sound works OK for Media player, Youtube etc. Processor is an AMD quad core A10-6800K APU 4.1Ghz, 8 GB ram, Win7 pro 64 bit, on board Realtek High definition audio

Deleting GrandOrgueCache is save, but only useful, if GO crashes during loading or the loaded audio data seems strange.
There should never be any reason to delete the whole GrndOrgueData folder. If GO would report, that there is a invalid CMB entry and you can't get GO loading a specifc organ, then there would be one reson to delete a specific file.

I have heard about lockup with Realtek audio. The helpful advice seemed to be to delete GrandOrgueConfig [for a recent GO].

But:
I really want to determine the cause of the lockup.
Could you please mail me a copy og GrandOrgueConfig ([email protected]).
There are diffent audio backends in GO. Could you please provide the full title of the audio device in GO, which includes the API. If switching between audio devices hangs, please provide the title of the old and the new audio device. I need to get a clue, which audio backend is causing the issues.

Where do I find GO config & what's an API? I did a search of C\: not found.

Finally found one that works, Windows DirectSound (PA); Primary sound driver 59ms, also Windows DirectSound (PA);Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio 59ms), some of the others have now started working. I'll stick with the Windows DirectSound (PA) Realtek High Definition Audio 59ms), I'm running 1694, I'll stick with that too for now. Fingers crossed!

It locked up on DirectSound; Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio 59ms) and MME (PA) Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio 59ms). I've not retried 1735 64bit, may try that when I've had a chance to play a few works.

So RtAudio DirectSound (DirectSound Entries without PA) and PortAudio WMME is causing issues for you.

The Roaming Folder of your AppData contains GrandOrgueConfig:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...lders-in/26f4d163-7340-4974-b513-72bfcd1f54a5

The path will probably be something like C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming - it is very likely, that your explorer hides it, because showing system files is disabled in your explorer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_programming_interface
Windows offers various audio interfaces (audio APIs, call WMME, WASAPI, DirectSound, WDM-KS) - GO supports them via different implementation - on implementation contains PA in the shown device name, the other not. For you as user, you will probably not have to bother with the details - you just have to try, which works the best for you.

For all entries with "(PA)", please select the entry and adjust the desired latency via the "properties" button, as GO ships with a very conservative setting.

Are any "Windows WASPI (PA) ..." or "Windows WDM-KS (PA) ..." entries working for you?
