    Education these days has a few things wrong with it, in my opinion - too many subjects studied too young, perhaps, and older core subjects like history only have time to cover the twentieth century, which is done over and over again. When I was teaching seventeenth century poetry, I found my A-level students hadn't heard of the civil war, for example.

    But on the plus side, most people are literate and at least, with texting and using the internet, they do a lot of practising of written language.
