CARMEN RUBINO
AQUARIAN DREAM
RIGA RECORDS
AQUARIAN DREAM is the debut CD by synthesist Carmen Rubino. This is high-quality new age music with hints of neo-classical and progressive-rock (the tunes Infinite Hearts Desire and Father occasionally sound a bit like the Trans-Siberian Orchestra). It is an interesting mix of lengthy epics and short catchy material. There are a few tracks in the 10-to-13-minute range, but also five tunes in the three-minute range.
What is most striking about this project is the melodic music. Rubino definitely has a way with a catchy melody. He got his musical start in a prog-rock band, EKTRA, out of Buffalo, New York (they did some local recording and regional touring). This solo music has a little prog-feel in it. But this instrumental music sits most squarely in the field of new age music. There are quite a few new age music synthesists who create this type of lush, horizon-to-horizon music, but not many do it as well as this. Highly recommended.
