Hi there JohnM,

You certainly have listed some interesting works there- from what you have mentioned, I only know the Beethoven (although not that transcription) and the Chopin, lol! Oh well, one can`t know every work...

Btw, feel free to introduce yourself on the intro. board; then we can give you a proper welcome! :)

Hi Rojo!

You should really try to have a listen to the transcription, it's beautiful and I'm firmly of the opinion that it's more effective than LvB's own transcription of the concerto for piano and orchestra. As far as I am aware there is only one commercially available recording, by Michael Collins on DG records c/w Mozart Clarinet Concerto (chestnut maybe, but still lovely)

Today it was Sviatoslav Richter playing Ravel`s Alborada del Grazioso, followed by Chopin`s Revolutionary Etude. Wow, very impressive. Great technique, flawless playing. I found these two pieces suited his playing style well. Or vice versa.

Right now I'm making my way through Bach's Brandenburg Concerto's, after just finishing Beethoven's 7th and 8th symphonies.

:grin::grin::grin::grin::grin:

I'm listening to Chabrier: Piano Works at the moment. The current track is Improvisation Andantino. It's excellent.

Today I listened some baroque music (J. Leclair, B. Ferrari), Renaissance music, romantic music (G. Merkel - 4 hands organ Sonata in C minor ) and classical music (Mozart - Requiem in D minor).

Today is Beethoven Piano Sonata day, I started at the beginning and we'll see just how far I make it. Currently the 4th mvt. of his 4th Sonata in Eb.

Brahms Hungarian Dance No.5 played by Yehudi Menuhin. Great stuff. Then another one (forget which) played by Leonid Kogan, which was fabulous. Love that Kogan. Good old youtube.

I'm going to have to post for "future" listening today. I'll be away from interenet access until probably Sunday night, so here's my tentative plan.

I've still got 8:15:12 left on the Beethoven Piano Sonatas.
I'm going to get as much of Debussy's Preludes as I can.
Chopin's Scherzos and Polonnaises are also just itching to be listened to.

Gee can you guys guess my favorite instrument?:p

EDIT: Beethoven's 8th Symphony 4th Mvt. has been on loop and I've heard it about 6 times in a row now

Hi mc 4ces,

Well that's not exactly classical pieces. :) Unless there's a link between german hip-hop and classical music I'm not aware of... not impossible...
Let's leave this topic for classical music - then maybe someone else wants to create a topic on hip-hop.

I haven't heard any classical music today, but I've been working with dynamic markings in a full set of parts for Sibelius' 2nd symphony... so that must almost count... ;)

Well Giovanni,

There's so much wrong with that post of yours, that I really don't know where to start. Suffice it to say that neither Kraftwerk nor Mannheim Steamroller has anything to do with "German hip-hop", the former pioneering in computer based/techno music (a popular-music's Stockhausen if you will) and the latter while first and foremost not being German, but American, and secondly there's a long way from this 80'ies "18 century classical rock" band to German hip-hop.
And no, the Dutch group Ekseption is not an exception either. ;)

Dear Corno,

My post to you was all in jest with no offense meant. I grieve that you felt slighted. Furthermore, I just wanted to share about my total ignorance of the contemporary music scene.

Ah well :banghead: :alc:
