What classical music did you listen to today?

Hi CT64,

Today I listened to the von Karajan version - otherwise I listen to the Solti version.

Cheers,

Kromme - I really love the London Classical Player's Brahms Symphony cycle with Roger Norrington, the third on this cycle is fast, real fast. So if you don't like high adrenalin Brahms then give it a miss. I'm not a fan of either von K or Solti (too self indulgent). I think for "normal" orchestra versions my favourite is Cleveland with Szell, it's terrific.

Hey CT64,

So, you find me too self-indulgent, eh?:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: - Well, you can't please everybody...

Be well my friend and may peace prevail on your daily walk through life,

Back on topic: Complete String Quartets Of Shostakovich.

Sweet Corn - I find you easy and fair tempered, never self-indulgent! von Karajan, now that's self indulgent. p.s. not a critcism of your tastes, just a comment about mine.

Hi CT64,

I was being just a bit facetious with my comment - No offense intended. That being said: I do very much like to *luxuriate* when hearing some *super-sappy schmaltzy* interpretation of a master composers works. Yes, I'm a *throwback* from another era...:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Thank you CT64,
But this authentic thing with absurdly fast tempos never feels right to me.I should try the drillmaster Szell.

If I'm allowed to change the thread title to "What piece of early 20th century music did you listen to today?" :)grin:) I would be able to answer:

Vaughan Williams Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis.

SIIIIIGH ..... One of those pieces that makes one ask "So what do I have to show for my life??"

Hi Soubasse,

But dear sir aren't you a teacher? If so, then you have much to show for in life.

Back on topic: Variations on Dives and Lazarus by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
