Eric Solaski Attempts To Think Without His Glasses!

Can't bear Shostakovich, too tedious and depressing.

However, speaking of tedious and depressing, I've been listening to some a wonderful recording of Mahler's longwinded but glorious 6th Symphony ... Czech Philharmonic, Vaclav Neuman.

There's something tidy, delicious and crisp about the way those eastern Europeans approach music.

Me thinks the young shocks-a-go-vitch was once a restless Bengal stalking and seeing through the burning savanna. Hunger and lust is driven. A stuffed predator doesn't run quickly nor stalk as well. Listen to the pant and the kill. There is no music without an audience that has been slayed.

A former music colleague of mine used to say *shostasonovabitch*.

If I remember correctly the Russian name etymology, Shostakovich
means son of Shostak, since *vich* means son.

Hello Sir Kromme,

Thanx for asking. For me, I am quite satified with the intensity and *glowing coals* performances done by *The Shostakovich Quartet* on the Regis label. Some swear by *The Borodin Quartet*.......

Apart from the Borodin Quartet (indeed my preference) I quite like the Eder Quartett on Naxos - don't know the Shostakovich Quartet's versions I'm afraid.
