Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops announced the new hymnal for 2021

I looked at the list of hymns included, and it's a real mixed bag.

Sure is - I see some 'praise' songs there too ... well by "praise" I don't mean songs that repeat the same lyrics ad nauseum.

Onward Christian Soldiers seems to be missing too ... The latest ELCA ELW hymnal deleted that one, too. <sigh>

I have a memory of Onward Christian Soldiers, at the time it was not amusing; a friend of mine & I had imbibed to excess on Saturday evening and heads were a little fragile, the first hymn was Onward, the organist did not take pity on us but opened up with everything at maximum.
This was back in the 1960s when I was in the Royal Air Force and the church was on the base, the organ was a Hammond with massive speakers, there were quite a few Hammonds in RAF churches, probably the originals with phonic wheels producing the notes, do any still exist in working order?
    Cheers MIKE.

My last paid gig was a wedding in an Anglican Church on a Hammond C3. I suffered the tone wheel sound and the ridiculously inadequate pedals, but made a few $. The best man gave me two thumbs up after the service, so I guess I'm the only one who hated the sound.

If I'm remembering "Onward Christian Soldiers", singing in the choir,
that also brings to mind "Brighten The Corner Where You Are", rabble rousers for sure.

If I was adding a new hymn to any Canadian songbook, it would be "Four Strong Winds" by Ian Tyson.
That would also be giving recognition to a Canadian native.
If we were talking American, considering Bob Dylan with his converting back and forth between religions,
his song "I Shall Be Released" has hymn potential.
