The new CD ‘Secrets & Alibis’ from Tennessee-based outfit VOID CONTACT is a rare occasion reminding the 60's, 70's and 80’s, also presenting the integrity of its own musical formula. Let me start by saying that I’m much impressed with this wonderful release! Sure, main credit goes to the songwriter David McHenry (lead vocals, b/v, keyboards, drums, percussion) and his long-time partner Carter Scott (guitars, bass, keys, back vocal duties). Here, a founding duo enlisted the support from many guests. Musically, ‘Secrets & Alibis’ features the eclectic blend of classic art rock, power pop, buffoonery, psychedelia, theatrics, sympho string quintet, accordion, pseudo Dixieland, sounds of radio (to name only a few). This spellbinding record wanders about in a free-formed style, utilizing a retro-infused recipe. The album flows and the listener is drawn farther into the sonic wonder that’s deeply familiar to lovers of famous artists from the past but remaining to be stunningly original. Panoramic approach evokes the vivid imagery of such bands as The Beatles, 10 cc, Queen, Pink Floyd, Klaatu, Supertramp, Styx, Toto, Jellyfish, Tears For Fears and the ilk. Just try to imagine the 14 fully new compositions produced by mentioned luminaries of yesteryear. There’s no doubt, this incredible disk is worth listening to again and again. So folks, sit back and relax. Let Void Contact take you for a dream ride. :)

As an add-on. :tiphat: Those people who appreciate the newer bands: Swedish A.C.T., German Fool's Garden, British Cats In Space, should investigate to this extraordinary album too.

Clarinet, sax and female choir are also noteworthy. :)

My feedback will come soon. :tiphat:

As one might expect, VOID CONTACT stay loyal to their musical principles arisen from the obvious desire to pay reverence to the classic source material. Whilst the new record bears the hallmarks of 'old-school', it sounds fresh and retains its own identity. Trite to say so, but these guys borrow some trademarks from influential artists and craftily mix them together. The utterly enticing formula works perfectly, as it allows the contrast to give many changes. Regardless of comparisons (The Beatles, ELO, 10 cc, Klaatu, City Boy), a ten-song set is by no means predictable. Combining the instrumental diversity and excellent vocals, the music of this band seems to flow like a river, gently caressing your soul. The prevailing vibe here is mellow, having a Deja Vu feel. All the compositions on CD ''Form Over Dysfunction' will definitely apply to those who grew up in the glorious time of 70's and/or 80's. Fancy a trip back.. :)
