Well, Ziehrer, Zelenka and Zemlinsky all do not qualify, so maybe a new country is appropriate. Hungary?

Sorry, Art Rock. I'll slip in the name of Carl Friedrich Zelter, born in Berlin, 1758. He was one of Mendelsohn's music instructors.

Back to the letter "B", Hungary, :) Bela Bartok, Hungary's most famous composer.

Ouch! "I" might be a problem for Hungary......:p

Hooray  for mm75  solved our 'ouch' ... btw, the Hungarian alphabet doesn't include the letters Q, W, X or Y, although there is at least one with the letter "w", (prounounced "v"), but we aren't there yet

Joseph Joachim (1831-1907) A great friend of Brahms as well as an distinguished violinist.

Minimalist Laszlo Melis, born Budapest, 1953. From Wikipedia:

He writes primarily in the minimal style and his compositions are often characterized by a propulsive, bouncy quality. Melis was a founding member of the Hungarian new music group Group 180, which during its existence (1978-90) performed and recorded five of his compositions.
Melis has also composed for film and worked extensively in theater, creating incidental music for theatrical productions. His compositions have been recorded by the BMC and Hungaroton labels.

Sorry to disrupt the flow and come back to this, but there would have been contemporary composer Gerd Zacher, born in 1929 in Meppen, Germany (but only just: the city lies close to the Dutch border).
