Lets see now - a "f**" can also be a cigarette or a pile of sticks for kindling a fire...

Comrade Colin, I put the asterisks in since I knew it would cause flared nostrils and dyspepsia if none were put in........

My favourite composer is J.S Bach because I think he has been and will be the benchmark for all composers, including jazz owes much to Bach

but I like also:
Monteverdi, Stravinsky, Scarlatti ... Beethoven... Grieg... Mozart

The best composer of every time, the only man musician in the World is, without doubt, the belgian César Franck (1822-1890). I'd been (many years) search about composers and more composers and the modernity, emotion and originality/criativity from César Franck impressione me very much.
It's always a different piece and I think all pieces from Franck are a masterworks (except church music that is simply a «game of composing» and a natural influence from the church because where are the organs? So let's use texts from church. Most of them in ninetheen century are in the church and we can't forget that there are historic music like the text in the fantastic «Ruth» or a personal interpretation in «Redémption» and «Béatitudes», that's why people don't understand these forget musics, they want a «religious style» like in «Panis Angelicus» - of course it's perfect in her style but for me the except of Franck's Mass «Panis Angelicus» is a secondary piece like his «Ave Maria's» etc etc) but there is one that capt all emotions: «Les Béatitudes».
The fact of Franck being very forgotten is the biography of a big critical influence in ninetheen century: Vincent D'Indy. I think music from D'Indy is also ignored and he has very great music, D'Indy is the true impressionist!! (He's best than Fanelli and Satie «just» antecipated it)
I will finish with a quote from Satie: «Franck is Franck».

Hello, I love Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Stravinskyetc but you are forgetting incredible composers like Ligeti or some of our present who are still alive. I recommend you some new pieces: Arquetipo by Lucas Fagin, Brujería by Pedro García Velasquez, Duel 2 by Luis Naón or À Bruno Maderna de Paul Méfano. Very interesting and passionate music from my point of view. Tell me your advice.

I've answered the question of this thread before but I'd like to add this:

"There is music enough for a lifetime, but there is not enough lifetime for all music"
(freely quoting Rachmaninov).
