Pop Rock bands

There are a lot of bands emerging these days and sometimes, it is really difficult to put them as a pure rock band or a mixture of pop and rock. Are you fond of listening to these bands? Or you compare them with boy bands?

I have never understood exactly what the distinction is between pop and rock (that's why I always use pop/rock).

Yes there is a big confusion with these genres. There are some instances wherein I can’t distinguish what genre it really belongs. But are you fond of listening to these type of bands?

It depends what you mean by these type of bands....

Bands like Coldplay, Muse, Keane, Franz Ferdinand, I like.

Thanks for giving me an idea what songs you listen to. I love Coldplay, too! Before, I find them totally boring but when I got to listen to “Yellow”, I began to love it. I also like “Fix You”. I find it as a very emotional song.

There is a great Pop/Rock band I love. They are called Cinder Road and they are bringing back an 'arena rock' sound similar to Motely Crue, Poision, Areosmith etc. They are really talented and you can check them out at -Edit-

I'd love to hear what you think of them :)

I always took the word pop more literally to be of the in genre at the time, whatever that is.
Then there is the basic band with the beginning, middle and end along with mostly (but not always) 3 part harmony that is more of an offshoot of pop, however it comes out.
Even though it would be hard to look at some of those bands as pop.
Especially The Doors.
Pop is supposed to be such an unflattering term, but all pop is really is music that moved out of the countraculture. At least over the last 40 years.
There is stuff now that would have sounded pretty wild 20 years that is generalized as pop. Maybe even 10 years ago.
I just think of 2 basic musical categories, music or muzak.
Wherever that falls depends on ones tastes.

You should check out a band by the name of Couple. I just reviewed their new album.

I cover plenty of pop rock bands on my blog, check it out at culturelesskids.com

A real great Pop/Rock artist is Patrick Droney. Real heavy, dextrous guitar riffs with catchy hooks and lots of power.

The Beatles are classed as Pop/Rock and their early songs "A Hard Days Night" and "Any Time At All" are classed as Power Pop. It was because they were melody driven music instead of blues influenced music. Many groups were merging Pop/Rock also The Rolling Stones, The Kinks and some of the Doors stuff is Pop/Rock. The Doors "Touch Me" is certainly Pop/Rock.

GFF - POP PunkROCK ... i think sometimes you get lost in details. The main thing is that it rocks! BTW, listen to GFF and you'll know what I mean.

If you are not careful you can end up hair splitting. We have had this discussion about blues/jazz. Where does one end and the next begin

Well the most pop, from the rock is Lordies - come on, they win the international pop festival)) that's a lot like a proud-scary combo
And a side from the jokes - I think those guys are pretty good for listening:
