Hello everybody!

First of all, I'd like to say that I'm very glad I've found this forum. Fredrik You're doing a great job ;)
I found here many material discussions and I like the friendly atmosphere.

If it comes to me...
Well, I am a student of organ and piano in a music school in Wroclaw (Poland). I've been playing the piano from the age of seven, but since I went to 'high' music school, organ became my main instrument. It's been five years that I'm playing it now.
Parrarel to that I am a student of Wroclaw University of Technology learning to be a computer scientist. It makes it sometimes hard to get along with everything but unfourtunatly beeing an organist (or in general - a musician) in my country is usually equal with living in tough circumstances.
Nevertheless music is my biggest passion and I'm looking forward to disscus many issues with all of you.
I just hope I'll find enough time...

Best regards
Dawerd.

I understand that You're speaking of Henryk Mikolaj Gorecki.
Well, from my observations, in general the opinion is that Gorecki is a very fine modern composer, who has done very much for polisch music of the second part of XXth century.
Though there where times when he was a quite controversial musician. Strongly criticized by some and loved by others. I quess it was the time when his own composing style was crystallizing.

What abaout elsewhere? How is he seen abroad?

Hello Dawerd! It's nice to meet someone from Chopin's homeland, and Szymanovski's, and Gorecki's :) I am no marketing expert in classical music but I would guess that Gorecki's third symphony (1976), "symfonia Piesni Zalosnych" (sorry if I don't have the accents), is mainly what made him so famous in North America, among contemporary music composers. For that reason, I do not believe that his music, as a whole, is that well known. But the third is a magnificient work, comprised of three consecutive lento movements, and absolutely divine in inspiration. I have not heard a Polish singer, however. My favorite interpretation is with Dawn Upshaw.

I love the third symphony, indeed prefrably with Dawn Upshaw. But also his harpsichord concerto and other works like Kleines Requiem fuer einem Polka (I think that's the title) are brilliant.

Well it's nice to meet you too Ouled Nails :)
And it's indeed nice to hear that people from abroad like Gorecki's work so much.
Personally amung all I like his harmony. I've sung some of his works in a choir, and they're just fabulous.
I didn't have the occasion to hear his 3rd symphony or other great works live though. At least not yet ;)
