What Do You Drive?

Classic car there, Johan ...
Another advantage of driving this 'work of art' is that probably nobody else wants it - so it will never get stolen

I drive a 1972 Chev Commando with the stuffing comming out of the seats, top speed 40km/h and using a liter of brake fluid for every 10 lit of petrol. The atvantage of driving such a distinctive vehicle, everybody in town always now where to find me and visitors usually get whiplash trying to get a second look.

Hi jvhldb

Sounds like a great car the 1972 Chevy Commando, 40 km/h? Did you ever get arrested for driving to slow, I mean the Police would also know your distinctive car.

But I guess, you have had alot of funny stories with the 1972 Chevy Commando?

I want one of those teeny tiny cars that are so popular in Europe - I forget the name. They are cute and efficient I bet, but kinda scary to ride in
but definitely a good car for those who drive mainly in suburban areas, rather than freeways.

Frederik had mentioned in another thread that the Telsa (Tesla?) electric powered car was becoming a popular item in Europe - apparently a very stunning acceleration, and it could plug into your normal household current for charging.

My '04 VW Jetta with its 180 HP, 1.8 Liter Turbocharged engine, certainly gives me all the thrills and chills that I yearn for. When out on the open road, I set its cruise control for 75 and no hill or mountain stands in its way as it climbs right up without any drop in speed.

My wife's Toyota Corolla is a dawg ... a no frills, no thrills thing - built solely as a commuter car for getting to work and back. At 6'5", I need a shoe horn to get into it, and a can opener to get out.

My son keeps hoping to find a 5.0 L Mustang ... he likes speed more than I do - well, he's 21 you see, so I guess it's a "man thing" at his age. For now, he is content with his VW Passat (same engine as mine, but with a bigger turbo).

Mazda's are pretty good in the ratings ... but slow sales here prompted the closing of the only dealership. Buyers have to travel some 125 miles to look at one or test drive it ... The ones with the "wankle" rotary engine are great "get up and go" cars.

No it definitely wasnt Mazda, I dont think we have that car here - I only saw it in Europe. They are even smaller than our bugs, the Volks Wagen bugs.

Muza dear, Ms. Margaret and Master Krummhorn

The Dane Steen Vig Jensen was the first to see the possibilities in an electric car with the strange name Ellert:

http://www.ellert.info/

Of course a German copyist took up the idea and made his own model of an electric car for use in the city. This site can be translated into English. Look to the left side of the page and scroll down:

http://www.ralfwagner.de/mini.htm

The great thing with this little electric car like the one Ms. Margaret has only with pedals is, the stearing wheel is at the center of the car, so it won´t matter if you´re driving in England, Australia, America or Denmark.:rolleyes::crazy:

Thats definitely not the car I saw. Is this one actually legal to drive? It would be a huge huge mistake to get in that and go drive on a freeway. I wouldnt even drive in it in the city, Im afraid some SUV might drive over it

Muza dear :tiphat:

I agree with you on the possibílity of severe physical damages to your body, should a fly hit the front screen. Not to mention one of these fourwheel drive SUV´s almost as heavy as a tank. However it does decrease your changes for a small car, smaller than the Intalian Fiat 500 or the Volks Wagen.

Perhaps it was one of these cars from the former eastern Europe like the Scoda or the Lada models you saw.

I bet those are really efficient, which is a plus with those gas prices. And it must be a pleasure to park one of these, especially in places like San Francisco, where a fly cant find space to park its behind :D But I hear they are really expensive as well.
I havent seen any in US yet however.

Besides, if I did drive, I'd be a liability, I do road rage as it is and I don't own a bloody car: i was crossing the road yesterday morning when some duckwit decided to run the lights. He had the audacity to "flick me the bird" (that's the raise middle finger) and open his window and said to me "get of the road you stupid c**t" ... I calmly walked up to his sporty looking car and booted its door leaving a nice imprint, he'll be paying dearly for taking me on.

Good for you, CT! That kinda rudeness just gets to me. People are forgetting what manners and common sense are, and who the heck do they think they are anyways!?!
