How many hours of classical music do you listen to or play on an instrument each week?

I don't play much classical music at all - perhaps the odd piece when I've got my acoustic out.

I am making a concious effort to listen more and explore other styles, so with that in mind I think I'm somewhere around the 7-9 hour mark. Naturally I would prefer to have longer to spend on this sort of thing, but what with work and life in general, I'm limited to a couple of hours a day music time which also includes guitar practice (non-classical).

I know what you mean! My own average per week (8-9 hours) is really based on work days rather than the week end. During the week end, if I can, I might listen to some twelve hours of music (most operas are a couple hours long). But I confess that I have virtually abandoned other musical genres. I used to "do" quite a bit of rock, blues, and jazz but no longer. We all change with time I suppose.

Most of my time with classical music is spent playing in church services, at rehearsals with choirs or my own personal practice time. That averages 10 hours per week, playing ... the remaining 2 hours devoted just to listening.

There are a lot instruments to keep up with. Choir and Viola take up a significant amount of time. Piano takes up the most time, maybe 7 hours a week average (a lot of that is all fun playing and no practice)

Listening wise, I pretty much only listen to classical music and a big chunk of that is spent while in the commuting in the car. Then in the evenings while on the computer and sometimes during school. Maybe 3-4 hours total listening wise a week.

Ouled I have also abandoned a lot of other genres. I used to play a lot of queen, and some hip hop/r&b. Now I'm like 90 % classical, 10 % jazz.

I would love to get into jazz music, though as a guitarist it's a big step for me. Before now I've played mainly blues, blues rock, that sort of thing, and picked up a fair few (probably bad) habits that don't bode well with playing jazz music.

Some pieces are within my reach, though others, particularly solo pieces with frequent chord changes, are most challenging as I've gotten so used to using only a certain number of shapes which aren't really applicable now. Having said that, I will struggle on and try and widen my musical vocabulary.

A little jolt, if you don't mind. Should one conclude from this micro-poll that about ten people listen to classical music on this site? Well, if that's the case, I propose we reserve an open thread to "Magle's ten classical music lovers"!

Given that I have ten thumbs, the best I can do is listen to classical music. I'm in the 13+ hours per week category. (Part of that total comes from background listening at work, but still . . .)

Time and health are deterrents... but I try to get in at least an hour or two of practice each day... far from ideal, but the best I can do. Not all is 'classical', though
(depending on the definition of that word...)

13+ here...I easily average 2 hours a day, mostly in the evenings.

I had trouble figuring just how much time; it varies. Of course I put in a fair number of hours practicing, but listening- not sure. As much as I can, that`s for sure! And then I listen to some of my students who play classical as well...

I'm with RoJo as to figuring out how much time is devoted to classical. My vocation has me performing and practising alot - I listen to alot of classical music and discover works to transcribe for organ, be they orchestral, chamber or other constellations. So, I guess I'm pushing 90 hours/week in classical music.
