Another Organist Joins The "Ranks"

Hi, all!

I'm Dean, a professional theatre and "pizza organist" in San Jose, in the South Bay Area of California.

That is, I was a pizza organist until the entire occupation became extinct on the West Coast of the U.S. with the closing of the restaurant I have played at (off and on) since 1985. It was the last of it's breed in the western states, with the excpeption of a place in Martinez (East Bay) that has likwise bitten the big one. I say "off and on' because i spent from 1996-2001 living in Chicago, and plying my trade as the house organist of the Music Box Theatre in the Wrigleyville section of Chicago, as well as performing at Beggars Pizza in Lansing, IL.

I'm also into film scoring in a big way; the first OST I ever bought was "Jaws" in 1975, when I was 12. There are over 300 in the collection now, in all media formats. A natural fit for a theatre organist, whose original function, after all, was the musical accompanilment of movies for the masses in the time before sound in films.

I also am a student pilot (IRW), and a pretty good virtual pilot. I use the X-Plane Flight Sim, on which I make short animated movies, and score them myself.

Obviously, there are two forums I see here that are most attractive, and I'll be watching.

I look forward to becoming an active part of these forums, and I do have a personal website, on which one can see (and hear) my original works. One caveat, though: you do have to join X-Plane.org to veiw or download any videos.

Hello  Dean :tiphat:

Welcome to MIMF. Glad to have you aboard this forum. Indeed, it is a shame that the theatre organs are being phased out where you live. I'll certainly peruse your website as I too am a TO enthusiast, but mostly play classical organ in church.

Here in Arizona, we are fortunate to have a 74 rk Wurlitzer (Organ Stop Pizza) where Charlie Balogh and Lew Williams play on a regular basis. I understand there is another large Wurlie in Sylmar (outside Burbank) in a semi-private museum. Grahame Davis is now the tech for that instrument.

Looking forward to seeing you about these forums. Enjoy!

A belated welcome to Magle International Music Forums, Dean! :tiphat:

I'm glad you decided to join our forum and already have become an active member!

A shame that the "pizza organs" were shut down, it sounds like a really fun idea. Unfortunately, with exception of a few privately owned ones, there are no "theatre organs" in Denmark. I will be looking forward to see you around here - hope you are having, and will continue to have, a great time here! :)

best regards,
Frederik
