When a minor piece ends on the major chord, what's the term for that?

Terpsi - something or another I think but memory fails me at this point. Any ideas?

It's called a tierce d'Picardy (but check the spelling) and, if this is answering home for you ... shame, shame!!

Thanks Contratrombone. I hang my head in shame - It's been over 25 years since I've needed to use such terms.

One can forget after after a while. I've also heard it referred to as a 'Picardy Third' but I choose not to use that term

Reminds me of a similar lapse of memory I had during an A'level music class many years ago.

In response to the teacher's question about the nature of a particular cadence, I proudly put up my hand and answered "It's a frigid cadence, sir". Much hilarity ensued shortly followed by a burning red face.

For me Phrygian cadences have never been the same since.

That's hilarious! That's even better than an oft-quoted howler from my time in school where, when studying slide projections of the architecture of old buildings, the teacher pointed to a certain part of the walls and asked "Can anybody tell me what these are?" The guy next to me shot up his hand and without breaking, says "Flying buttocks!"
