Holidays- Are you going anywhere?

Do you have any summer holiday trips planned? I don`t have anything in mind yet, but I`m looking forward to some time off. Maybe I`ll do some short trips, not sure.

Hmmm, we plan to go tent camping in a couple months to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. I'm starting to get cabin fever and need to get out of the cage for awhile.

My heart bleeds when I think about the sommer vacations . We have invested a little bit in a house this year, then a little bit in its redecoration, and then ...a little bit... in a grand piano. So there is no question anymore whether we plan any trips till 2008. Maybe only very-very short ones - to the nearest supermarket.

My other half and I had one very brief jaunt to the Continent at Easter, but we're planning a longer trip for August.

We'll probably fly to Perpignan in the south of France for a few days – one Rugby League match and some time by the Med to top up my tan again – after which we may well get the train to Lyon and then head east into the Alps, dipping into Switerland before heading back home via Germany.

Going on the wild side, in a couple of days, for a week-long of relative "primitive" camp life in the Maine woods. It's a real old-fashioned camp without running water, but ten feet away from a great lake, Sysladobsis (I bet there's no other place name like this one anywhere else!). I've got to plan carefully because there won't be any refrigeration, other than the cold lake water. The fish is delicious, though, as long as one does not exceed the recommended maximum fish consumption (mercury plagues fish life in every lake, even where the water is limpid clear). I'm bringing a couple of books, three or four dozen CDs (with lots of AA batteries), my white wolf-dog, but not the cats (call it cat discrimination, if you wish), etc.

The place is advertised by real estate developers, of course, but the camp site does offer a view similar to the larger picture on this website.

I'll be a captive of the forest; my spouse will drop me off and leave me without a car.

Be a teacher, they said, get summers off, they said. Lies, all lies. I'll be working through my summer vacation, just like the winter vacation. Still, I'll try to steal a weekend for a merry jaunt up to Seoul to try to catch a ballet--it's been YEARS since I've seen a ballet.

Just about to post when I saw this old thread and thought,- waste not want not.
Just had a crack up and booked a week in the South of France. Just a little place with a nice pool in a small wine growing village. Baker, general store small bistro and a café/bar. The reduction in the Euro makes it a relatively cheap break, with wine and food a lot cheaper than over here if you eat where the locals eat. Not far from Carcassonne which I visited when younger, and fell in love with. I may not come home as it is possible to buy a house in these villages for about £60,000. About a third of what mine is worth. Very tempting. The down side is I would have to drink a lot of red wine. Apparently it is the law and who am I to argue with the law. Anyone else holidaying?

You must obey the law Teddy, have a lovely time. I can't remember the last time I had a holiday. Hubby's health is not the best, we never seem able to go away.

Teddles,

In Lubeck we got exposed to oyster-gray skies, torrential floods from the Heavens, and just a little bit of sun - the same for Fyn - Copenhagen was sunny and smily as always when we are there - Halmstad gave us 3-1/2 really hot and sunny days. And now my mother is with us in Moscow for her vacation.

A fascinating area worth exploration I should imagine CD. Lovely that your mother can join you. I imagine the triplets will get throughly spoilt. Thats what grandparents are for.

Thanx Teddles - My wife and I received quadruplets - 2 girls and 2 boys, so hands are full but they never scream, shriek, caterwaul or squall. We really love Lubeck. The old town is surrounded by what looks almost like a moat - a most perfect town...

Sounds beautiful CD. The sort of city that we would ruin over here in the name of progress. And yes, I remember you had quads now. Four times a s much fun.

Teddles,

Please help to refresh my memory as to which town in the U.K. has done most to preserve its historical character - Is it York or Salisbury or some other town? Lubeck is on the UNESCO World Heritage List...
