I am just discovering this forum and your music, Mr. Magle. I am curious that this movement was performed...3 years ago, but is not yet available on a recording, and perhaps this is the situation with some of your other work, as well. Is there a reason for that? Your work is Wonderful! Another fan, from the U.S. Susanne in Eugene, Oregon.

Hi susangio,

Welcome to MIMF ... your comments regarding Frederik will be passed on to him for certain.

You might try this internal link which is the discrogaphy page of Mr. Magle's homepage. If there is something specific that you don't find available, you might send him a PM inquiry.

Thanks! I did find that page already. I've never used a forum before so if I'm at least in the right "thread" I guess I'm learning :) Susanne.

A very much belated thanks to Susanne! »Souffle le vent« is not yet available on CD, but it will most like be though not until the whole of »Cantabile« has been given its first performance. I may have something to announce regarding this later this year. Don't ask, please ;)

Cb64, thanks a lot for that great comment (ps: you will be receiving a reply to your request very soon :))

Best regards,
Frederik

Your Song

Hey thats a cool excerpt you have there.

Thats the kind of stuff I want to learn how to write. Meaning modern kind of music that is harmonious rather than dissonant such as alot of todays modern composers.

I'm studying music at uni and we are getting right into modern music there. Alot of it seems to be so thought intense that it takes the focus off the music itself. It seems to be a musical distraction the same way that pop music is saturated with images promoting its performers as heroes.
The kind of stuff you're writing I don't believe has alot of musical distractions. Its the kind of music that can be enjoyed without involving yourself in the social culture of composition, philosophy or the worshiping of musicians(who in pop music are often inferior musicians anyway).
When the focus of music is put on the wrong things then people listen to the music for the wrong reasons, eg to feel smart or superior, or to have a hero to worship.
I think its possible that people enjoy good music instinctively. For example no matter what culture you're in an octave or perfect 5th has the illusion of consonance. Whether its human instinct or a physical vibration that the brain is attracted to I don't know, but I think music that surpasses culture and social scenes can be appreciated by anyone else who chooses to surpass their culture and social scene. I think alot of film scores do this because they are designed to move a persons emotions, rather than appeal to their social thought patterns.
Anyway. Cool music. I like most of it, the pizz at the start of the excerpt is cool, I especially like the quiet bits. Nice and relaxing.

I really want to hear this in full, does anyone know where/how I can?

The third excerpt is like part of Mozart's requiem, one of my favourite pieces. (And Mozart knew that it would be considered a sort of benchmark too!)

I have a napster subscription but isnt on there... some of Mr Magle's older stuff is on there though :)

Thanks

I was looking for something like that last night and my DSL box kept
cutting off where I didn't get to hear it. I gave up and got something
else to listen to for dinner.

I bet your DSL isn't as bad as mine :p

It cuts off whenever you try to use it, but I suppose that is what you get when you buy a cheap internet service bundled with satellite TV :(

Well, I didn't buy it, my dad did. *grumbles*

Seems for the better recordings with the higher bit rates a good internet connection might be the norm. I use Cox Cable for my internet connection - they are not as good as Comcast by far - many times during heavy use times, my connection slows down to a crawl, something that I never experienced with Comcast. Unable to get Comcast as I live within city limits, and Cox has exclusive contract for all residences within the city - Forget DSL here, its worse than the worst cable, and satellite isn't any better.

Amadpianist, let me guess because I have it. Believe me AT&T used
to have excellent service but their DSL boxes leaves a lot to be desired
by long shot. Ma Bell isn't what she used to be.

Dear Mr Magle,

I've today listened to the excerpt you so kindly posted above of your symphonic poem, 'Cantabile'. (Bar 299-387). Please, if possible, can you tell me a little about how and why this work was written ? Did you work for a long time on it ? Do you consider it to be one of your best works ? And what was the reaction of the orchestra and of the audience when it was premiered ?

For myself, this music humbles me. Your music makes me aware of endless possibilities and is wonderfully orchestrated. You have a wonderful gift.

Thank you so much for the privilege of hearing it.

Sincerely

Robert (Newman)
