Music Interpreting Poetry, Events, Emotion

Sometimes I guess it takes a person like me until 50 years plus or so for the light bulb to finally come on. Maybe that's a shared experience? After listening to Frederik Magle's downloads of his compositions, especially those commissioned to celebrate various historical events or inspirations, and selections from Light on Your Path, which just truly make me feel !Joyous! I then began listening to some "polyphonic" acapella choral music - specifically that of another young composer, Eric Whitacre's album Cloudburst, which interprets some of the poetry of e.e. cummings, Emily Dickinson, Charles A. Silvestri, and Octavio Paz, and...between Whitacre and Magle...wow, the light bulb came on, big time. And then there's Samuel Barber's Adagio--well, who can listen to that without crying? All this beautiful music simply colors the rest of my world with the watercolor brushstrokes of gifted humans, gifted in somehow unlocking a greater part of our potential to understand the mystery and spirit of what it means to Live.
