• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

MyOrgan ODF Creator (Ultra Fast and Easy)

Hello,
Re: MyOrgan ODF Creator
I have created tools for Virtual Organ fans. First, I would like to introduce a program to generate (the most easy way) ODF (Organ Definiton Files) for type HW1 programs like MyOrgan and others. This affordable program will be offered soon.
I am looking for 5 people interested to test it and form an appreciation.
Contact me via PM
Thanks
Bonjour,
Mon PM
Merci

Hi everyone
My sound Card (I Think) allows me to add Reverb to the output of my whole computer, so I can add that, and MyOrgan gets the Reverb.

I'm using the Jeux D'orgues Library, but does anyone have any other suggested free sample sets? I've also got the HappyBirthday and SmecnoMini sets.

Further to my post back in February when I noted some "Tremulant" effect using the Omniverb VST plugin for reverberation with MyOrgan, I think I now know what was causing it. Omniverb puts a slight modulation on the signal on purpose, but if you don't like it, you can easily disable it by clicking on a button on the display. This is probably what I was hearing.

Congratulations to jean-paul

No one has seemed to mention it yet, so I thought I would take this opportunity to commend JP for his astounding (and helpful) work with this forum. Not only has he provided us with so much beautiful music to enjoy, but has helped us along the way since he first discovered MyOrgan a little over a year ago. It just goes to show that with determination, you CAN overcome obstacles and reap enjoyment.

If one reads these posts you will find that JP went from "playing around" with MyOrgan to developing tutorials/recordings/videos and put up his own website, which if quite nice.

I now see that he has turned this "hobby" into a part-time business and I commend him on all of his hard learning and sharing. I am quite pleased that he can now start to reap some rewards for all of his efforts...WAY TO GO, Jean-Paul.

I'm sure you are proud, but I just wanted to say that your accomplishments have not been lost on me.

Thanks so much.

I will gladly second your opinion, Stephen. Jean-Paul is a wondeful and helpful man, definately a skilled composer, too. He's been of a great help to me and I appreciate it.

Wish you the best of luck, J-P.

thanks you Greatcyber and Mat for your nice comments.
If I try to earn some money it is only because my portable computer and my digital piano are old and almost dead , I have to replace both and I do not want to pay with the money I receive for my retirement
But i am allways willing to help organists for free

JP, I think it is great if you can make some extra money, especially if it is doing something that you love. And you obviously found your "niche" with MyOrgan. You deserve whatever you can get financially since you have devoted so much effort into all of your work. I realize that will offer your help to those that ask. I was just pointing out that all of your efforts have been amazing! And your help is endless.

Thanks, once again.

Hi !
I have discovered kloria myorgan 15 days ago, when I was not at home, but with a very slow speed for download, I could not try this software as the organ sets are very heavy (100 Mb for the smallest).
When I came back home 2 days ago, from where I can have DSL, I have been able to load 5 free organ sets for MyOrgan or hauptwerk 1.
Myorgan is wonderfull; since I am home, I play organ for hours.
the definition files are very easy to understand and to edit, so i have allready made my own organ, mixing the various stops.
i use MyOrgan in two ways :
- in live with a midi keyboard (piano FP8 roland) my PC and a reverb (quadraverd Alesis)
- with Harmony-Assistant (a cheap french music editor software) that I use as a midi sequencer + midiyoke (a free virtual midi cord necessary to link the two softwares).

:) J-Paul :)

Dear JP,

Can you please explain how to make the harmony assistant to play my organ..? is it possible to use Jorgan & noteworthy instead of myorgan and harmony assistant.?

thanks ,

Alex.

You need to install MidiYoke; with 1 or 2 ports.
with harmony-Assistant, create a new score using the pipe organ model.
for the 3 staves, set output instrument to Midi, not to numeric. Set midi channels 1 for ped, 2 for great ...
In general settup, select 1st midi output port = midiyoke 1 (input)

in myorgan, set midiinpput = midiyoke 1 (output)

2° sorry, i do not know

MyOrgan files

The MyOrgan files have disappeared from both SourceForge and Kloria. What's happened? Does anyone have these files?

Thanks, Bob

Hi Bob,
MyOrgan 1.0.6 was originally released in 2006 and the creator ceased supporting or hosting it part the way through this year (2009). He has since given the Copyright and Trademark 'MyOrgan' to Milan Digial Audio. The source code of MyOrgan was incorporated into a new project - 'GrandOrgue' which can be downloaded from http://www.exedra.hu/grandorgue/ . The GrandOrgue project still needs to update the copyright notices in regard to the changes, but GrandOrgue has everything that MyOrgan 1.0.6 does, plus a few extras (like the Transpose feature). Hope this helps

Furthermore, GrandOrgue is much lighter than Hauptwerk 3. Il is really sufficient for home practice.

I've decided to take the plunge and try GrandOrgue (nee MyOrgan). Rather than clog this message board with questions, is there anyone willing to communicate with me directly (via email) about setting it up? There are a number of posts on Magle about CPU speed requirements, memory needed, sound boards, etc, but no one collection of "GrandOrgue 101". Help? Thanks! Bob

Hi Bob!

I thing that some people would like to have some info as well.

Well, my own feeling is that MyOrgan or GrandOrgue are very easy to install softwares.
So, nothing to say on the setup point of view.
With regard to the required ressources, I should say that:
- those digital syntesizers are part of the "sample" type, which means that you need some AVAILABLE memory space; this one depends on the sample set you actually use; for instance, I have 2Gb of memory under XP, and that is enough for Romantsviller Organ;
- a lot of computations are being performed on the samples, so you need some computing capability, and fast memory acesses; for instance, I run it on an Athlon 64 single core (Yesss....), and the 2Gb are made of two paired 1gb banks;
- if you want to enjoy the wonderfull sound quality this type of synthesis can provide, you need a good sound output device; for instance, I use an E-MU 0404 USB interface that sounds marvelous;
- you then need keyboards; I have nothing to say in particular; for instance, I use two Midi keyboards, one on the 0404, the other staight into the computer Midi input.
To add a pedalboard, you will need some extra Midi input. Some devices are available for the purpose. Othewise,if you get enough money, there are wonderfull keyboard/ pedalboard sets on the market, easily linkable....

I must say I designed a dedicated computer two years ago for the purpose. So the cost/result ratio is pretty high.
As far as I understand computer technology, a multi core computer doesn't improve performances, because GrangOrgue is not designed for split computations.
Any reasonnably fast machine will do the job. But I tried it on my simple laptop, and I quickly reach some limit when I play a lot of notes (considering my musical level, not so often....).

Anyway, this software being free, just try it with your equipements!

Using MyOrgan

Hello all of you,

I am using Grand Orgue for serious organ work. I have HW3 but I prefer
MyOrgan / GrandOrgue for many reasons. GO is all that is needed.
However, MyOrgan needs to be completed, I don't mean adding features, only correcting a bug that was also present in HW1. It is better with MyOrgan/GrandOrgue. In HW1, it was objectionable.
HW1 is useless for me, I can't stand the pedal noise in the Subbass, at key closure.

This bug is not apparent or audible for higher pitches than, say, 6'. It is still there, but not audible for higher pitches. Because a single wrong cycle in the end fade is too short in time.
It should be corrected. The problem is that at key closure, the jump from loop to end tail is not always at the right place in the wave cycle.
For a 16' pedal Bourdon or Subbass, for instance, sometimes, not always, depending on the initial place in the loop, the jump is wrong and the sound is bad, a kind of hiccup.

In HW3, this problem is totally corrected.
If this is too difficult to be corrected, in GO, I think we could simply have a gradual fade at tail end, for pipes with the lower pitch that manifest this bug too strongly.
I mean no jump to a tail end. For the lower keys, the loop would just go steadily until the volume is nil.
With a choice of tail ends, this noise at key closure would be eliminated, and the sacrifice of the normal tail end would be very minor for those few pipes.

We need a programmer to do this. Or a team of programmers. I would be willing to pay for that. MO/GO is almost the program I would dream of, 10 years ago. The Subbass noise is very annoying.

Hi Yves,
Thank you for that input :) I knew there was a bug in GrandOrgue in regard to the sample release, I just didn't know what it was or how to find it. I'm currently working on updating the image work in GrandOrgue (I'm not a programmer, but given a little trial and error I have managed to figure out what and where the images are). I'll have to see if looking through the code brings anything further in regard to this issue. The last time I looked at the audio section it was too full of equations and variables for me to read properly... so maybe if I take it slowly :)

All the best!

What I think :
The bug must come from some lookup table made at loading time.
This lookup table registers appropriate jumping points with the proper values and derivatives (rate of change).
I think that since no two cycles are exactly the same, there must be some accepted range for a suitable jumping point.
Some wave shapes may have too similar values and derivatives at the beginning of a cycle and somewhere else in the cycle. Then a wrong jump.
Hence it could not appear on certain stops, if the wave shape is not prone to this problem. It may be possible but difficult to alter the wave until the bug doesn't show.
I had the intent to experiment this but I had no time for this work yet.
I don't know how Martin Dyde has faced this difficulty in HW3 but it is perfect in HW !
