Inspiring story

On tv last night there was a program about a pianist from Korea with only four fingers, Lee Hee Ah. She isn't just "good . . . for someone with four fingers", she's good by any standards. I was floored. It reminded me of that movie about the future in which piano music is so hard that only genetically manipulated twelve-fingered people can play it. It's nice to know that expressiveness and musicality still count for at least as much as virtuosity, and that those qualities aren't limited to people with "normal" physical and mental characteristics.

Here's a link to a video about Lee Hee Ah:

I hate using the words "inspiring story" because it sounds like a hallmark card or after school special, but this actually inspired me, so I thought I'd share it.

Another inspiring story.....

Wow!
I can see what you mean by inspirational and moving, what a great talent and heart rendering story, thanks for sharing it.
I became interested in the artist Shyan Italia last year when I saw him support G4 on tour. Hi music blew me away and so after the concert I looked him up on myspace and realised that he too has quite an inspiring story.
He was raised in India, and is the only Zoroastrian since Freddy Mercury to be recognised for his musical ability.
However he only realised his talent after both his parents died within a year of one another. The loss left him devastated and he found the gift of song, without any previous experience or training he was able to play the piano well and channelled his emotions into music by writing hundreds of songs!
He then spent his life savings on a plane ticket and came to England, since being here he’s competed two degrees in music production and even broke records by being the first artist ever, to sell shares in his future earnings on Ebay in order to finance his career – now this is something I was truly inspired by. This is a story of what is possible if you want something badly enough and are willing to push yourself in order to attain it.
Since hearing the lengths he has gone to in order to catch his dreams I have since enrolled on a college course to strive further in changing my own destiny!

Check him out for yourselves at http://myspace.com/shayanitalia - he’s only 28...

Err, I am obviously impressed...:)

There are more of us with unique talents because of a handicap or
a deformaty. Even Beethoven couldn't hear nothing but he could
compose all of the 9th symphony that every church uses in their
hymnbook.

I too have a slight mental disability and have ADD real bad. That didn't
keep me from having a musicial talent that I can share with everybody
who wants to be entertained. I even asked while I was praying "Lord
why did you give me such a talent with my limited ability. I love music
because it has and will always be my sanctuary when I need a way
to express the way I'm feeling or want to feel close to the Main musician
upstairs.

Judy,

Those are the best words I've seen in along time from someone describing their individual joy of music - and it's all so very true. :)

encouraging thread when I feel bad because I can't do nothing right
at times is an encourging story like that.

That really is an inspiring story.

It reminds me of Django Reinhart, the gypsy jazz guitarist who badly burnt his third and fourth fingers on his left hand. He also nearly lost a leg, but he refused to have it amputated. After his treatment they gave him a guitar for therapy. He went on to play all over the world, and very good he was too.

Yes it is, he was only eighteen when the fire happened. It just goes to show how people in adversity, pick themselves up and carry on. Especially when through all their pain they go on to give pleasure to others.

There is this one guy - not famous, not popular, just another nameless guy - an "attraction" of the Balboa park in San Diego. Both of his arms are gone, so he makes living by playing his guitar with his feet, and very well too!

I have seen him numerous times, and everytime he touches my heart and soul. I think he really is one of today's heroes!!!

Look at Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder. They are both blind but still can
play the piano or keyboard. They even sing! Ronny Milsap is another one
who does country and he's blind. But look at all of the hits by all of them.
