Hip Hop....

I personally like some rap/hip hop. I wasn't sure if anyone here did. Well most people do not like it due to what they see on music video channels. (which the only reason the rappers do it is for the money most of the time)

I like hip hop when it is a dj (producer) and mc collaboration, or an actual band (which is usually a combination of funk and a dj)

Back in the 70's(actually i don't what is was like back in the 70's I am just going by what I heard on VH1 Classic) it was about the dj and having fun with the turntable. Now it is basically about how many women and rappers with a white background behind them in the video.

Every now and then you will get one band or dj that actually goes back to what it should be. Some examples: Gorillaz (combines many genres such as using classical elements into what would be a r+b song.)

What has happend to what it used to be? Does anybody here have personal tastes in certain kinds of hip hop?

I make old school hip hop, and I agree with the sentiments in your post. It used to be a political program of sorts, but today it's all about.. nonsense.

I have CC collabed with ol skool producers from France, USA, Canada and Russia so far, who are of the same opinion, so... It takes more than a bunch of sexist mumblers dressed up in clown suits to eliminate the Ol Skool. We still rockin' ya'll!

EDIT: Here's a CC collab I made with Zion-i from California on the mic, through the legendary producer DJ Vadim. I thought I might add something with ol skool lyrics, the first piece is just DJ 80ies nostalgia I guess.

Anybody else and Thomas, do you prefer all mix and computer generated, all band, or a mix between the 2.

I always liked a mix between the both.

I was on a bike ride with some cycling club buddies when a car pulled up next to us at a stoplight. The kid was blasting hip-hop. One of my friends (a guy in his 40's like myself) said, "I can't stand that crap! That's not "real" music." I said, "That's what our parents said about our music. You're getting old, Pat!" We then had a fun debate about what constitutes "real" music which made the miles role under us a bit quicker. I pointed out that hip hop was not created for us 'dinosaurs' and further, it's arrogant to say it's not 'real music'.

Hip hop is not my favorite music form either. But it is an art form and a lot of people like it and listen to it. It takes skill and creativity to render any music form well.

By the way, I really do like the blend of machine and human rendering. There's a tension there that makes the music more alive. That's why I really like playing with sequences/samples/loops.
