• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

I could only find a CD recording of these - Henry Fairs, playing the CC at Notre-Dame, Paris.

Lots of sheet music available for Duruflé, except for those two items - most strange. For whatever reason they are out of print, but not yet public domain as Durufle' only passed on in 1986.

I stand in awe at anyone who can successfully play Duruflé ... I love his music, but never had the time to dive into his compositions and learn them well enough to play.

Looking for Durufle sheet music

Tomasz,

Have you tried U.M.P. Durufle's publishers ?
www.ump.co.uk
If the pieces you want are out of print, they may still have old stock or have a reprint supply service.

Best wishes.
rk

I have Op. 5 and Op. 7 of Durufle ('Organ Suite' and his 'Prelude and Fugue'). But, sadly, not those two pieces.

Regards

I know the Prelude but was not familiar with the Chant Donne. Try Durand perhaps? They published some of his scores...

I agree with Krummhorn about MD - his Requiem will never leave my top 5 of the "most sublime music ever written" list. An absolutely superlative work by a composer who was so self-critical. I've played the solo organ version quite a few times now for numerous choirs, and even though it's incredibly difficult, it's always such a thrill to perform, worth every effort.

I actually have both scores that you are looking.

The Prelude was never published through a publisher as far as I know, it was published in The American Organist magazine years and years ago. Most organist have a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy and so on. My school has in its library the original magazine, so that is what my copy was made from.

Chant Donne was sort of the same way, it was published in a collection of piece, but it was written in open score. I have a copy of it that I actually got from someone on YouTube and it's been condensed to two staves. I also took the liberty of resetting it on Finale and I took the bass line and made it into a pedal part.

Anyway, I can scan and sent them both if someone hasn't already. As for the Chant Donne I can send either copy.

Give me your email if you want them!

I have a copy of the Chant Donne (an unpublished piece) if anybody else has not been given it. I don't have the Prelude though, so OrganoPleno105, I have sent you a PM with my email address.

There is also a fugue on a theme of Henri Rebeaud which is little known, and a recently published Meditation (Durand)

I'd be so happy to get "chant donne"

Hello! I heard yesterday for the first time in my life "chant donné", what a lovely piece, what a great discovery for me. Could you please send me the piece? I have finale too but my version is 2007 so I might not be able to open your file. I would like to play it but also study carefully the harmony. Thanks a lot! heres my email: [email protected]

Hello all,

I'd really like to have the "chant donné" score too.
It's a lovely piece, and seems less dificult than other Duruflé's work.
This piece was an composition exercice when he was studient.
The title means that the teachers "gave" the melody and the studients had to make all the others harmonic voices under it...

Organopleno105, I've sent you a PM...
Thank you

Prelude to the Introit for Epiphany

I would love a copy of the Prelude to the Introit for Epiphany! It's probably too late to learn it by this Sunday (Epiphany), but one needs to be thinking ahead to next year! It seems to be out of print. Neither Durand nor UMP have it in their catalogues, and google

If you'd like, I can trade you some other rare out-of-print seasonal thing like Garth Edmundson's Toccata on Von Himmel Hoch.

What a convenient thread! I also was trying to find the scores for both the Introit de l'Epiphanie and the Hommage a Jean Gallon. If any of my fellow users from this thread would care to share one or both, it would be greatly appreciated!! My email is LucasCBrown at gmail.com

I cannot speak to the two pieces in the original post but as to Durufle... ... for a long time considering playing any of his scores was out of the question... I simply didn't have the technique. I may be informing the informed but the Prelude, Adagio and Choral Varie on Veni creator is worth a look. Certainly the last section, the Choral varie. Johannus has two different performances on youtube with two different organists. I had a copy of his Fugue sur le Carillon des Heures, but let it get away from me. That's another accessible work by MD. FWIW

Who knew organists were so helpful! maybe there should be a "Music Wanted" sticky or something. Maybe there is... I haven't really looked... but since its out there... It's Women's History Month and I have a copy of Jan Bender's Procession on St. Theodulph (All Glory Laud and Honor). It's learnable by Palm Sunday. I'd trade it for a copy of the Percy Whitlock "Fanfare" which I used to have but it literally disintergrated. I understand it can be found in a collection called "The Shorter Works of PW" by Dover(?) but I already have most of what is in that collection. I also have the Cortege et Litanie by Dupre which is hands down the most money I have ever paid for a single piece of music. Worth every penny. I'd like to share it. This thread is about French Music after all. I feel I must make amends for requesting Percy Whitlock.
