• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

    Many kind regards

Thanks, Corno Dolce. That was a great performance, though rather Latin in style. I don't think my British-born teacher would allow me to play that way.

Ahhhh - Good man Guilmant - such superb and sublime music

Indeed - so glad I was able to download all his organ works before IMSLP went down ... whew!! I use Guilmant quite frequently for service music at the church.

Hi Krummhorn,

Lucky you for having downloaded all the Guilmant works before IMSLP went down. I wish I had gotten to know IMSLP site earlier so that I could have downloaded every Public Domain item they had. Supposedly IMSLP will be back online shortly - YAY!!!!!!! The 'net is so volatile these days. Hey, if you want to follow the latest discussions about IMSLP and associated items please see below:

Hi Corno Dolce,

Very interesting, those discussions in that site ... even read the response from UE with an open mind ... agree partly with them and yet disagree, too. I would gladly pay a fee every year to have access to that kind of database for downloading - sure beats going all over creation and back looking for various pieces.

Hi Krummhorn,

Oh you aint kidding about having to trek mountain up and mountain down, fording streams, rivers, and plying the oceans to get what one needs - IMSLP saved my bread many a time.

Cheers,

Corno Dolce

Hi Corno Dolce,

Saved my hind end, too. So did this PD Choral site when looking for a particular anthem. They employ a Copyleft Free Art License which I found quite interesting. Wonder if that kind of licensing could also be used for IMSLP

Hi Krummhorn,

Thanx for the PD Choral site. Lotsa good stuff in there. That Copyleft Free Art License seems like a logical way for IMSLP to go. Since you brought up the idea, maybe you might be willing to share it with IMSLPforums - just a friendly suggestion.

Cheers,

Corno Dolce

Ahhhh - Good man Guilmant - such superb and sublime music - the Finale from Sonata No.1:

Agree - I use various bits from time to time. The liturgical and practical collections contain a good few little gems and not that difficult to play either!

Hi Corno Dolce,

Just want you to know how much I appreciate your contributions to this forum. Living on an isolated island, I don't get to to hear much organ other than my teacher playing on Sunday morning. The videos you recommend have therefore been very inspiring to me. Please keep up the good work you're doing for organ students throughout the world!

Hello Flute'n'Pedal,

Awwww shucks, you make me melt. Thank you for your most kindly words of encouragement. I really love this forum and the absolutely wonderful colleagues that frequent it. Honestly, you all make my day very sunny :up::tiphat::clap: I see myself as a servant on this forum and derive great pleasure in helping out my colleagues. I shall persist in scouting out good organ videos to the best of my ability and present them to the forum.

Cheers,

Corno Dolce
