Can I do this on violin?

I'm a self-taught student of composition, and I wrote this passage:

It's a 4/4 Moderato.

Is it possible to be played?
Is it notated correctly (including the slur)?

It's definitely possible to play; I'm a very average violinist and I could probably play that at something close to speed with a bit of careful practice.

In terms of notation, there's nothing technically wrong with it, aside from the fact there's no time signature. There's really no need for the 8va notation, it's pretty normal for that top G to be written normally. For me, in terms of user-friendliness, I would probably prefer it to be written normally, especially since there are no huge leaps involved. The fact it's at the end of a run means nobody's going to have problems figuring out what note it is.

The slur's written correctly, no problems there.

Hi John, thanks for your reply.

So there is no need for the 8va notation? Without it we'd end up with a lot of ledger lines... I'm really surprised with this. I know I should write the score as easy as possible to be played, BTW do you think it's fine to keep the 8va to save space between the staves?

Well I mean it's really a matter of personal preference. Most violin music isn't really afraid of throwing ledger lines at you. At least in this instance there's the run up which essentially makes it impossible to get the notes wrong.

But if you're just looking to save space, especially on the full conductor's score, keep the 8va. Like I said, there's nothing 'wrong' with it!
