• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

Hi Musicalis,

I like the whole thing and want to play it in church at Christmas time. Would it be alright to change the order of the variations, or is it important to play them in the order which you have given?

Xmass choral

Dear new friend :D
I am glad that you will play this music for Xmass. You can take variations in the order you want; it doesn't matter.
Please, let me know where the music will be played.
Also, if you can record and send a mp3, I would be very happy to hear this music played on a real organ, as I cannot do it by myself. It will be a great xmass gift for me.
My next song will be dedicated to you.

I'm thrilled. But I must tell you that I've been playing the organ for only 1 year. So I'm not sure if I can learn the whole thing by Christmas. But I will try.
I have a wonderful church organ to play on, and good recording equipment.

Hello musicalis,

How generous of you to dedicate your next composition to Flute'n'Pedal. I must say that these next two variations are so sweet. What a gift of composing you have and that MIMF is privileged to count you as a member of its ranks.

Many blessings to you and yours,

Corno Dolce

dedicating

Hi Corno Dolce !
I will be very glad to dedicate an organ tune to you too or to your church. Just help me to write the text, because dedicating in English with mistakes will not be very serious.
You are the next on the list after Flute'n'pedal. ;)
I don't know if you will get "variation V" or a new tune.

Variation IV is ready.
It is a slow and easy to play tune with cromhorne for melody and gamba celste for accompaniement. Time signature is 3/4 to change a little.

Here is the MP3 file http://musicalis.monespace.net/autres/img528a.mp3

Hi flute'n'Pedal. I am waiting for your reply before I publish the score.

Friendly.

Hello Mâitre Musicalis,

Oh WOW! - dedicate a tune to me? I tremble as a leaf in an Autumn windstorm. What an honor - oh dear - I am so unworthy of such a distinction.

Most humbled,

Corno Dolce

Musicalis,

What a sweet and introspective variation IV you have graced this forum with. May I ask if Sir Frederik Magle has been in touch with you? I think that he would be very interested in this work of yours.

Humbly yours,

Now, I am glad to present you my fifth variation (and may be the last one) of the Xmass choral for pipe organ. Variation 5 is an adagio. It will be dedicated to my friend Corno Dolce, so you should have to wait a little for the Pdf score.
The 5 variations can be played in the order of your choice.
Here is the mp3, made with my cheap software that is not really a virtual organ. If somebody can and want to make something better, send me a PM.

Musicalis,

It's as though the music gets better and better with each variation. There is no cromhorne on my organ, but I think I can figure out a good substitute. Maybe at some point you could compose a "coda" for your piece. You could always add more variations afterwards if you wanted to.

Keep up all the great work.

Hello Most Honorable Musicalis,

What a splendiferous work this fifth variation is. It has such a solemn majesty, full of dignity yet unpretentious, tender and sweet yet very noble. WOW - I am floored that such a gem is dedicated to me. Thank you, Musicalis, from the bottom of my heart.

I really do hope that Frederik Magle would find some time in his most busy schedule to listen to these works of pure art composed by a very noble soul.

In greatest humility,

Corno Dolce

Dear friend.
I am very happy that you think I am playing this music, because, if you believe you are listening to a real organ, it is the proof that my virtual organ is not so bad.
I would have like playing it by myself, but, nowaday it is impossible. I have a neurologic illness and it is very difficult for me to move my fingers. I can play a little, but slowly. My right hand has less trouble than my left hand, but it is quite impossible to play a trill for instance.
I have been an organist, but not a good one. I have never received any lesson. I learned by myself on a small pipe organ with 1 kbd only and no pedals. I did not read the music very well, so, i allways played the same tunes. But people said that I was very good for "improvising".
I have had also at home, a liturgic electronic organ, many years ago ( 2 kbds + 32 pedals Malines). But this instrumeny had tuning trouble and I sold it quickly to buy a multitrack tape recorder. Now I still have 2 pianos (a Kimble and a yamaha) and an electronic piano Roland that i use as a midi master kbd.
But in fact, since I have troubles I write music with my computer, without the help of any musical keyboard.

Hi Musicalis,

Thank-you for all these scores. I'm practising hard to learn them. But it seems to me that you haven't yet posted the score for Variation IV. Since it's my favourite of them all, I'm anxiously waiting to print it out.

variation IV

Hi !
The score is ready, but I think you have not understood what I would like to do : dedicate this music to you.
So I am waiting for the small texte (like "for my friend .....") a text that I'll add at the top of the score.
Please send me this small texte or tell me you do not want the song to be dedicated to you.
Then I'll publish the score.
J-Paul :)
