Relatively recently I took on a new permanent post rather than working in lots of different places. And soooo much fun too.
This church is an anglican church, yet it is far more catholic than all the Catholic churches around the wider area. Quite remarkable really, and a real pleasure to be working with someone who really knows and understands his liturgy. Makes it a real pleasure to work with someone who is first of all very pleasant anyway, who is very pro music, very strong on liturgical structure, appreciates and respects other professionals.
I remember some time ago a thread here about working for the catholic church and how 'difficult' they were, and yet this is known for being hardcore catholic (and extremely unpopular in the diocese as a result) and is a total pleasure.
What can I say. The only gripe is that the organ is digital instead of real pipes, but even that sounds good in the church.
So it's gotten me thinking.
How many other organists here do full on choral masses all the time or even to what degree the catholic mass is celebrated elsewhere. (not to mention the devotions to 'our lady' etc. I'm told that even the Catholic churches round our way have dropped that out of the services...)
