What jazz have you been listening to today?

jamie cullum-pointless nostalgic-candid cd.dont know much about this guy apart from the fact he is british. i enjoyed this album rather hip vocals and some nice piano from a very young jazzman.(he looks young). the side men i dont know either,but they are good. gord

I have to admit this is the first, and only forum I have used. Not much help from me then. gord, you say this is a better forum, but the othere one has more members. Why?

hi teddy, i didnt say magle is a better forum(i think) but i prefer magle.as for why organissimo has more members i dont know. probably they have been going a lot longer. hopefully one day we will be busy like they are. gord

I discovered this artist just a few months ago. I listened to the mentioned album and a few others, too. He's got a nice voice and pretty decent piano skills. I like that the music he plays is not pure jazz, but with some pop addition (strange thing for me to say as I stated many times before that I hate pop music, but still there's a certain charm in this case).

Maybe it'd be an idea to create a thread devoted to his work as well.

Here's a video of him playing Let It Snow. Looks like he's warming up for a gig. I particularly like the last chord he plays. It's a plain F13
chord and yet it sounds so fresh.

I have to admit that I have never had much time for Jamie cullem. Rather like Jules Holland I have always found him a bit of a show off as if he were bigger than the music. I mentioned a Toots Thielmans record last Wednesday which he played on and I enjoyed him on that occassion, but that was because he was playing WITH Thielmans and not trrying to play over him. If only he would let the music do the talking. I do think he is talented, but does not generally play in a style that I apprecieate. (Toots Thielmans - One More For The Road)

You guys have got a lot to answer for. Just listened again to Janie Cullum on the Toots album. Playing and singing very straight - One For My Baby - and - damn it. I ENJOYED it. If any of you can point me to anything like this I will be grateful. I may even become a fan of his. I will search out gords recommendation.

inspired by the modern jazz quartet thread i decided to dust off my mjq records which i hadnt played in years. i played blues at carnegie hall-atlantic great album, so good i played it a second time.next i will play collaboration with laurindo almeida i know this is good also.gord

An interesting mixture here but definitely influenced by jazz. PM and LM definitely present. And overall Jonis lovely voice holding forth. Features several of here favorites such as Furry Sings The Blues and Coyote.
