the american jazz orchestra conducted by john lewis-- ellington masterpieces-east-west records.this is a great allstar big band recorded 1988 and its drummer is mel lewis, so it swings. gord {yes it is hardbop grandpop) :cool:

my old computer conked out. been without for over a week. anyway i got a new one and i am back. i was tired of hardbop grandpop, so decided to go with just gord. right now i am listening to dave brubeck quartet--jazz impressions of the u s a-columbia lp. gord

the blind boys of alabama--down in new orleans. i know it is gospel and not jazz, but there is a dixieland band backing them on some tracks. very nice cd. gord

carmen mcrae--with the kenny clarke-francy boland big band. carmen on form,backed by one of the great big bands. it doesnt get any better than this. gord :cool:
