Have not listened to any Jazz today, Went to see the National Youth Jazz Orchestra last night at The Stables. They were brilliant, all of the musicians are under 25, the guitarist being only 16.

I went to a Herbie Hancock concert yesterday. He was promoting his latest album - The Imagine Project. He was one of many top-shelf musicians that played within this year's Ethnojazz Festival.

Beside the material from the album he played some all-time standards of his - Cantaloupe Island, Chameleon, Watermelon Man (which was so far from the original it took me quite a while before I figured out what it was) and also Monk's 'Round Midnight.

Apart from piano, he played various keyboards, including this one.

Here's the personnel:

Herbie Hancock – piano
James Genus – bass
Trevor Lawrence Jr. – drums
Lionel Loueke – guitar
Greg Phillinganes – keyboards
Kristina Train – vocals

It was a very pleasurable event and I'm glad I was able to be there.

Went to see The James Goff Big Band last night. They were very good, they travel around playing for charity.

I have been listening to the 2 cd set of Wayne Shorter: The Blue Note Recordings. Especially of note is his haunting and evocative performance of his composition "Footprints" which was also done with him on tenor sax on the Miles Smiles album. This version is shorter and for me much more moving than the earlier rendition. Simply awesome! :tiphat: Ciao for now--White Knight.

Herbie Hancock Concert

Mat, I am so happy that you were able to see Herbie Hancock perform some of his greatest songs! It must have been simply awesome:eek: Congratulations and I hope you get to attend many more concerts. I take it that this was in Denmark, right? How big an audience was there and what was their reaction to Hancock and his group? Was it a long show? Anyway, hope you and yours are well. Ciao for now--White Knight.

Hi WK,

I won't tell you how big the audience was as I don't want to mislead you. Anyway, they took him and his band very enthusiastically, there was even someone who tried te get upstage. Needless to say, he was taken care of by the security quite quickly. Other than that it was calm. They played for a bit over two hours. There was an encore, too. After the show was over, Herbie stayed onstage for about ten more minutes just to give some autographs. It's quite a long time, don't you think?

As for the future events, there are a few coming up. I know Jan Garbarek, Chick Corea and Gary Burton will be playing in my city. I hope I'll be able to see/hear them.

And no, the concert wasn't in Denmark. It was in Poland.

Cheers
