First album of jazz this morning already in the past tense Mark Soskin, known from the Sonny Rollins Quintet, but here on his solo album entitled "One Hopeful Day", recorded by Recording Arts SA 2007.

The musicians:

Mark Soskin - piano
Chris Potter - tenor and soprano saxophone
John Abercrombie - guitars
John Patitucci - double bass
Bill Stewart - drums

Mark Soskin is obviously in very good, achieving and professional company on this great jazz album playing his own compositions and a few standards, like "Bemsha Swing" for instance.

So right now the American guitarist Mike Stern on his album "Who Let The Cat´s Out" from Heads Up International 2006.

The musicians:

Mike Stern - guitars
Jim Beard - piano, keyboards, synthesizers
Gregoire Maret - harmonica
Bob Franceschini/Bob Malach - saxophones
Roy Hargrove - trumpet
Richard Bona - el. 5-string bass, vocals
Anthony Jackson - fretless acoustic bass guitar
Chris Minh Doky and Victor Wooten - double bass
Kim Thompson/Dave Weckl - drums

Awesome album. Next to Pat Metheny and John McLaughlin, I believe John Scofield, John Abercrombie and Mike Stern are number 3, 4 and 5 on the ultimate TOP 10 list of electric guitarists in jazz 2008.

John McLaughlin aka the band leader of the Mahavishnu Orshestra on his album "Visions Of The Emerald Beyond", recorded by Sony Music 1973, remastered in 2000.

The very first album, where I listened to the replacement Michael Walden in stead of Biilly Cobham. What a freakin´change it was. Michael Walden did not have to hit ten drums to make it sound huge.

The musicians:

John Mclaughlin - guitars
Jena-Luc Ponty - violin
Gail Moran - keyboards, vocals
Ralphe Armstrong - el. bass, fretless acoustic guitar bass
Michael Walden - drums
Michael Tilton Thomas - director of the London Symphony Orchestra.

If you happen to enjoy innovative jazz drums, this is your album.

*Remembering John* by McCoy Tyner.

How appropriate sir Corno Dolce :tiphat::clap:

Except "Remembering John" by McCoy Tyner is related to another John equals John Coltrane.

Though John Mclaughlin actually made an album entitled "Time Remembered" from 1993. But one has nothing to do with the other.

But here on this beautiful quiet peaceful morning, while the sun has decided for a new bright day with no visible clouds, let´s listen to John Mclaughlin and The Mahavishnu Orchestra on the album "Apocalypse", recorded 1973 and released by CBS Records 1974.

The musicians:

John Mclaughlin - guitars
Jean-Luc Ponty - el. violin and baritone violin
Gail Moran - vocals and keyboards
Philip Hirschi - violin, vocals
Carol Shrive - violin, vocals
Marsha Westbrook - viola
Ralphe Armstrong - el. bass, fretless acoustic guitar bass, vocals
Michael Walden - drums
The London Symphony Orchestra - Conductor Michael Tilton Thomas

First song "Power of Love" begins quietly with the french and english horns, John playing acoustic guitar, while Jean-Luc Ponty is warming up on the violin for the crescendo.

We continue from "Apocalypse" to the quartet album "Inner Worlds" by the decreased The Mahavishnu Orchestra without the London Symphony Orchestra, recorded and released by CBS Records 1976.

The musicians:

John McLaughlin - acoustic/el. guitars, guitar synthesizer, vocals
Stu Goldberg - piano, Hammond B3 organ, synthesizers
Ralphe Armstrong - fretless acoustic bass guitar, el. bass
Michael Walden - drums, percussion, piano, vocals

One of the very few albums where John McLaughlin has turned to the guitar synthesizer to express himself.

In 1999 suddenly an older recording by CBS Records due to the original The Mahavishnu Orchestra recorded in 1974/was released after being remastered for CD by Sony Music Entertainment 1999.

The title of this album is "The Lost Trident Sessions".

The musicians:

John McLaughlin - guitars
Jerry Goodman - violin
Jan Hammer - piano, keyboards
Rick Laird - el. bass
Billy Cobham - drums

Most of the songs were recorded earlier on the first two albums by The Mahavishnu Orchestra "The Inner Mountain Flame" and "Birds Of Fire", though the titles of the songs have been changed.

Now we take a huge jump to the English born Dave Holland, now living in the USA, who was headhunted by none other than Miles Davis in the late 1960´s.

On this particular quartet album entitled "Dream Of The Elders", by Dave Holland, recorded by the ECM Records 1996, we find the guest vocalist Cassandra Wilson too on number 4 song - Equality.

The musicians:

Dave Holland - double bass
Steve Nelson - vibraphone or marimba
Eric Person - soprano and alto saxophone
Gene Jackson - drums
Cassandra Wilson - vocals only on song 4

Dave Holland has been among the TOP 10 double bass players in the world - in my book for three decades. Recently, I watched a concert from France on the MEZZO channel, and here Dave Holland for once in years played the el. bass in a quartet led by Herbie Hancock (piano, keyboards), Kenny Garrett (alto and soprano saxophone) and Brian Blade (drums).

Dave Holland on his second Big Band album "Overtime", by Dare 2 Records/Avatar Studios 2006.

Almost the same crew as on "What Goes Around" from 2002, except one replacement in the trumpets/flugelhorns section and one person in the trombones section.

I wish you all a great relaxing sunny and warm weekend!!

Cassandra Wilson, one of the very best jazz vocalists of our time, on her latest album "Loverly", by the Blue Note Records 2008.

The musicians:

Cassandra Wilson - vocals
Martin Sewell - guitars
Jason Moran - piano
Lonnie Plaxico or Reginald Veal - double bass
Herlin Riley - drums
Lekan Babalola - percussion
Rhonda Richmond - background vocals

AWESOME album, the songs and the musicians almost equal to the band at the concert, I attended at The Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2008 around to two months ago - in a completely sold out concert hall.
