Men who abuse, rape, assault, strike under age girls and women, are mostly pigs. I have non whatsoever respect on these guys. They should be lucked up, and then someone should gently throw away the key. There can not be any legal excuse for this kind of behaviour.

Hello Intet,

The Woodstock Festival in '69 was held on Yasgur's Farm in Sullivan County, New York which is about 125 kilometers west of Woodstock, New York.

Many Italians and Irish arrived in New York when they emigrated to America. The Irish were a very disadvantaged lot when they arrived. By hook and by crook they were able to get elected to political office and then proceeded to hire mostly Irishmen to man the Police precincts and Fire stations. Here in the U.S. we call it "Irish Welfare". You'll still hear the use of the term "Paddy Wagon" for a cop car in New York. The Police in New York will gladly use the terms "Shenanigans, Hooligans, and Shilleilaghs". All these are typically Irish euphemisms.

Back on topic: By request from the Love of my Life - Calabria Foti will help us to close our eyes.

Cheers,

CD ;););)

Thanks for the update on the Woodstock Festival and the city Woodstock. I always thought it was just a stone throw from the city Woodstock, thank you. Now, I am a bit wiser ;)

I clearly remember the interview in the movie with this farmer Yasgur. He must have thought his land had been invated. 300.000 people are a lot of people. I read many years ago that canadian sing and song writer Joni Mitchell, was invited for Woodstock, but the traffic jam to Woodstock made it impossible for her to reach the festival. Joni at one time in the past living together with Graham Nash, former member of the english group The Hollies, before he imigrated to America and became a steady member of the great vocal acoustic guitar group Crosby, Still, Nash & Young (canadian too).

Have you heard, to be back on topic (not realy jazz or maybe it is) Pat Metheny with Joni Mitchelle on "Shadows and Light", Asylum Records 1980 feat. JM (piano, acoustic guitar, vocals), Pat Metheny (guitars), Lyle Mays (piano, keyboards, synthezisers), Michael Brecker (tenor saxophone), Jaco Pastorius (el. fretless bass) and Don Alias (drums, percussion).

That´s a fantastic album with both Pat Metheny and Jaco Pastorius. Joni also made an album with Charlie Mingus (double bass, piano) can´t remember the name though.

I know a lot of irish people became police officers and fire fighters, while a lot of italians became the opposite of police men. More into the Mafia and elegal traffic of anything elegal + a "few" murders. They say the Cicily mob invented bribery towards politicians, judges, police chiefs, reporters, public officials etc.etc.

This should however not be generalised to cover all italians or any other nationality. However it was the Lucky Luciano controled mob, who created Las Vegas. Lucky Luciano and Frank Sinatra were born in the same city at Cicily.

Hi Intet,

No, I didn't know about Pat Metheny and Joni Mitchell. However, there was a Jazz magazine which had a lengthy article about the collaboration between Joni Mitchell and Herbie Hancock.

Oh yeah, the Sicilian Mob Family has been "prolific" in its penchant for crimes - then there is the Camorra. Hey, Hong Kong has the Triads and Japan has the Yakuza. Every Country has contributed/is contributing with its own brand of crime "families". Its human nature I'm sorry to say. There will always be a sub-set of humanity that will engage in crimes of opportunity.

Cheers,

ps. Back on topic: "Sketches Of Spain" by Miles Davis.

Hi Corno Dolce

You said: Its human nature I'm sorry to say. There will always be a sub-set of humanity that will engage in crimes of opportunity.

I don´t know if it is human nature to belong to a crime family, I hope not. However you´re absolutely right, the USA have all these crime groups. Late in the 1980 the mexicans - latinos - extended the crime groups with their own south american crime family, obviously mostly in the southern California. But also in prisons they bring the crime family inside. Al Capone I believe ran the entire Chicago family from the inside. Rumours said he ordered more than 200 killings, but yet the only crime he was committed to, and was sentenced for was taxavation :rolleyes:. Rediculous. On the other hand, he was a broken man when he was finaly released and died shortly after.

And yet think of the popularity the Mafia trilogy on the movies with Al Patino have had. The Mario
Puzo story the one which is closer to the real Cosa Nostra.

And for the jazz: John Abercrombie (guitars, syntheziser guitar), Marc Johnson (double bass) and
Peter Erskine (drums) on the album "Live in Boston", ECM Records 1989.

For this morning danish local time 05:30, thinking of how tough it must be for master Krummhorn sweating in all that US sunshine, let´s have something different in jazz:

The norwegian saxophone player Jan Garbarek on his album "Photo With A Blue Sky, White Cloud, Windows, Red Roof, Wires ..... The Picture", ECM Records 1979 feat. JG (tenor and soprano saxophones), Bill Connors (guitars), John Taylor (piano), Eberhard Weber (Weber standup el. bass) and Jon Christensen (drums).

Hi Corno Dolce

You seem to be enfatuated with this Brian Bromberg "Wood" 1 and 2. I better check it out, BB being an awsome double bass player, according to you.

The jazz "Swimming With A Hole In My Body", ECM Records Bill Connors (solo acoustic guitar).

Hi ses.,

So, do you know his other albums? Have you ever heard 'Relentless'? Those two are the best ones, IMHO.

Hi Mat, you´re such a great guy ;)

Thank you my dear friend just out of my sick bed, after some ungodly force hit me with a granate in my stomach, haven´t been able to eat for almost 3 days, without everything coming out faster than you can say "s...". I guess Sir Frederik had the same trouble, which seems to be a contageous decease at the moment in Denmark.:cry: But like they say, at times it´s painful only to be alive.

Just one question though. Matt Damon is an actor right? Did he make an album singing jazz standards? I remember there was a movie years ago titled "The Talented Mr. Ripley", where MD did some singing or perhaps playing the saxophone, after having stolen the identity of some high roler?

Pavel Zboril? - A a fellow polosh citizen of your´s Mat?

Sorry to hear that:(. I'm not feelling very good either. In fact, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to take some antibiotics. Bad luck, eh? But now that you logged in to MIMF I hope you're doing okay:)

Agreed. He's ana actor. An you're right about the singing. He (vocal) performed "My funny Valentine" in the movie along with Jude Law (saxophone) who did some playing but I think he was faking it. In the first scene MD played a piece on the piano (I don't know. Maybe "Stabat Mater") and it looked like he was really playing it. I happen to have a soundtrack from this movie and there are few tracks where both JL and MD seem to be singing with thier own voices. First one is "My funny Valentine"
and the other one is "Tu Vuo' Fa L'Americano".

Pavel Zboril? - A a fellow polosh citizen of your´s Mat?

To tell you the truth I've never heard of the guy. But I did some searching and it seems to me that he's from Prague.

Cheers,
Mat
