Hello,

My name is John. I live in Georgia, USA. I am a 13 year old learning to play organ. I have played on and off for two years. Now I am really getting serious about it. I currently play on a Wurlitzer 4500. I purchased it from someone on CraigsList almost a week ago. The bass pedals are distorted, and the spectra tone doesn't spin, but I am going to get a technician to come and look at these problems in the near future. I practiced on a Hammond L-111 in the past, so the Wurlitzer is a step up in size. I am will be glad answer any questions that anyone has for me. Thanks.

:wave: Hello John

Great to have you aboard this Swell forum community. Being an organist, you will fit right into the 'ranks' here and I know will enjoy making acquaintances and participating in the various discussions.

You are starting out at a great age - I was 12 when I started taking organ lessons, which was preceded by six years of piano study. Wurli 4500 - doesn't that have a full pedalboard? I know the Wurli 4800 I had as a kid was built to AGO specs.

Looking forward to seeing you around the community here. Enjoy :up:

Mat, who didn´t watch this TV series 90210?

Many years ago, I had the unfortunate chance on a hotel in Frankfurt to listen to the TV soap number 1 IMHO equals Dallas with J.R. Ewing and Bobby E. and the rest of this most conspirering oil family from Dallas, Texas, you know J.R. the slimy scum of the earth, starred by the actor Larry Hagman - However I was in Germany, so J.R. spoke in German. I can only titulate it a most weird experience.

The 4500 does have a full pedal board. I cannot use them because the distortion makes the music sound like the Phantom of the Opera recorded on a cheap camera and then put on YouTube. The organ is in perfect shape other than the pedals and the Spectra-Tone. The cabinet has one minor scratch on top, and there was on that was made while it was moved to my house. I am excited about progressing into the world of music, and I feel very welcome into this forum.

30507 = My Zip/Postal code.

I joined a forum a while back, and all of the numbers after John that I could think of were taken, so I used my zip code. I use it for everything that I join now just to keep things simple.

a name as common as John would really have that problem. It's also one reason i stick to my nick c5 or username ceefive. it was only here that i used c5says because it wouldn't accept c5 and i was just fixing my c5says.com blog at the time i joined MIMF. :)

how's your family, john? any siblings?

Dear Intet,

If you have a bible then go to the New Testament and read the 3rd chapter of the Book Of John verse 16 - It is the one pertaining to supreme sacrifice.

C5, I have an older brother and an older sister. Neither seem to care too much about my organ playing. My parents have not been enthusiastic, but they try encourage me. My grandma... she is a completeley different story. Her father played organ. The organ that he played on is in my basement. It is a Monarch Reed organ. It is in bad shape (non-operational) but my grandma insists on keeping it. She had a Thomas theater organ. I would play around on it when I was younger, but it no longer exsists because of a fire in her old home. The fire itself did not completely destroy the organ, it was the fault of vandals. Anyways, she tells me everytime that I mention my organ she tells me how proud she is of me playing.

I have recently thought of trying piano. Should I go for it, or perfect my organ playing first?

Hi John30507,

There has been a good discussion of your question regarding piano or organ being learned first in this thread in the Pipe Organ Forum area.
