Learning Danish?

Judy, try it, I battle and still practise but am not good enough to participate in the Danish section. I can say simple things and ask directions, ask about prices, once it becomes technical my Danish is useless. Nevertheless, I love the language, and love to read Andersen in Danish. The English versions of the fairytales are just so wrong, they lack the flavour of the Danish tongue (in my humble opinion).

If you really want to learn Danish, can I recommend a two CD course with booklet called "teach yourself Danish"? It was written by a wonderful women (Bente Elsworth) who taught Danish as part of the Scandinavian Studies at the University of East Anglia.

It's a great course, especially if you want to study alone. I learned Danish years ago, so my vocabular isn't too bad. I bought this course so that I could do a refresher. It's written for adults and involves an English guy (George) who travels to Copenhagen to set up an outlet for his chocolate business (kind of like selling coals to Newcastle! If you've not eaten Danish chocolate, you're in for a treat, the good quality stuff is wonderful). The two CDs have all the spoken dialogues PLUS a lot of comprehension and "answer the following in Danish ..." type stuff. Excellent. I'm going through it unit by unit and not moving on until the unit's vocabular is firmly in my head (no mean feat for a 44 year old!!). Love it.
