I for one will be here on this forum on the 22nd of December, 2012 and we will see about these 'prophecies'. Some of their "predictions" have been quite erroneous in years past ... I remember "the world is going to end" crap of the early 1960's ... obviously, it didn't end then, and I believe it won't in 2012 or any other date for that matter. IMHO :).

Since someone else has started another 2012 thread about the movies,
I thought I would resurrect this one and I would like to hear more.

I remain interested in this topic. I am interested in all the different angles espoused by journalists, researchers, scholars, et al. Of course as with other things, it could be a self-fulfilling prophecy if the populous keeps it in the forefront.

Since historically, life is cyclic then 2012 is just as good a year as any for the next major event on earth. Perhaps another Edgar Cacey will come along and pick up where the last "sleeping prophet" left off.

Just in case, better get those travel plans in order and not put things off until you retire...just in case. :)

2012 Skidoo?

I know. I probably listen to 'Coast to Coast' too much. No, I don't place too much faith - in fact none at all in the 2012 prediction. What is interesting are the number of ways and means by which that prediction is to be carried out. True, we may be overdue for a magnetic reversal, but what we don't know is how long such a reversal would take. Seconds? Years? It certainly would have serious side effects - but a mass extinction? Of course, we are probably also overdue for another ice age. That we know can arrive over a period of about ten years - or so some researchers claim. Once here it can last for centuries. Then we have the massive impact idea - a large (well reasonably large) meteroite could cause great devistation. Make it big enough and indeed there could be total destruction. Just keep your fingers crossed on that one. Somehow I doubt the Incas would be an any position to predict that far ahead. Then again.....

Ah well. It makes for a good topic. There are more than a doze theories as to cause and effect surrounding 2012. We should get George to cover them all on a single show sometime. (VBG)

While it's true that Matthew 25:13 does say Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh, it doesn't say you won't know the year.

Further thought...

I realized one thing last night. If the magnetic field of the Earth dropped to zero, one of the very serious things to happen would be an extreme increase in radiation. Both from the sun, and from outer space itself. The Van Allen belts would vanish. Heavy particle, X-rays, gamma rays and so on would stream in. In effect this could very nearly sterilize the entire planet. If in doubt, consider the hazards faced by high flying aircraft during solar storms. Or the very real risk for astronauts.

Ok, so we have the potential for extreme radiation, asteroid collision, anything else? :-]

It is my understanding that we are already in the beginnings of another Ice Age,

I guess only time will tell. I was looking up dates for 'little ice ages' - they listed 850AD, 1650, and 1770. There was also the summer that never arrived somewhere around 1860 (?) Have to look that one up again. It seems it was due to volcanic activity. Thats something that does have a effect on short term climate change though not to the extent of a ice age.

There seem to be may theories as to cause, but nothing conclusive.

I guess you can say that I'm being a little like Sybrite with this one.
I would like to discuss what you guys think about the predictions of
2012. The Native Americans of Mexico and South America are saying
that the world will end on 2012. Everyone else has been wrong so
far. I was reading the book of Matthew the 25th chapter and Jesus
said that we don't know the time or hour that the end will come and
the Lord's return. Not even the angels in heaven. For I will come as
a thief in the night. Do we know when a thief will break into our
house and take our stuff while we are away somewhere? Absolutely
not. Let me know what you think. May God Bless.

This prediction doesn't necessarily mean the Biblical end of ordinary humanity. Most of what most people see as the apocalypse has already happened, all those code names and numbers referring to The Roman Empire and The Holy Roman Empire, the dark ages, The Inquisition (600 years) the black death, etc.
Some western Canadian natives, over 300 years ago, predicted the dominance of the white man in North American would end around this same time. For the most scientific prediction, look at the detailed star charts of the Aztecs and Maya. Ancient Egyptians said the great pyramid would reveal it's message some time after the year 2000, I forget the date. However, lest I stray from accepted Christianity too far into the other works of our heavenly father's children, here's a question for you.
Remember Noah and his Ark, not The Ark Of The Covenant? What was the first creature he released when he thought the storm was subsiding? I'm always surprised who says dove or dove with an olive branch. He released a black bird. Why does every tribe from the Inuit to the tip of South America have a belief that a crow, blackbird, Quetzoacotl or raven brought down the sun, quieted the earth and calmed the waters, or as creation history?
The legal restoration of the state of Israel, the discoveries of other books of ancient times, from the Dead Sea Scrolls to The Book of Mormon all fulfill Biblical predictions as signs of a coming apocalypse.
Not territory, wealth, gold, jewels, harems, what man has fought over from time immemorial, but oil, the blood of the earth, the global addiction of the new millennium. The blood of man is now known in that black gold.
You live your life, you take your chances. Choose well.
May All Peace Be Upon You, when you do.

You'd think if Jesus wanted to give His followers wisdom that could really help them, He would have told them about germs and soap?

quote from OP"The Native Americans of Mexico and South America are saying

." Do they mean the Earth or all of creation ??

I think what was implies was just our planet. From the OP, and a couple successive ones after that, I get the impression that the Mayans have made the prediction.

I still say, poppycock ... what happens, happens .. mortal man has no control ... a large meteor could come crashing into earth tomorrow ... we just don't know, imho.

We could send up a rocket and play Rock Music at full blast, that would be enough to scare any thing away:D
