What do you think about The 2012 prediction

I guess you can say that I'm being a little like Sybrite with this one.
I would like to discuss what you guys think about the predictions of
2012. The Native Americans of Mexico and South America are saying
that the world will end on 2012. Everyone else has been wrong so
far. I was reading the book of Matthew the 25th chapter and Jesus
said that we don't know the time or hour that the end will come and
the Lord's return. Not even the angels in heaven. For I will come as
a thief in the night. Do we know when a thief will break into our
house and take our stuff while we are away somewhere? Absolutely
not. Let me know what you think. May God Bless.

Just live every day the best you can, and try your best not to spend too much time on questions no one will ever answer. Me myself I have problems with thinking about senseless and useless things, it's a very bad habit.

I've seen these "predictions" before, and thus far, every one of them has turned out to be completely false. Whatever happens does, and we (as mortals) have absolutely no control over it. As the scripture reads " . . . know not the day nor the hour . . . ". So, for me, these doomsday predictions are as worthless as a $7 dollar bill.

The funniest occurrence of one of these "doomsday" efforts was when I was going door-to-door canvassing for a new mission congregation. As I approached one house, the family was busily packing their car, and I handed then a leaflet and invited them to come to church when they got home from vacation. The man of the family said, "What's the use - the world is ending tomorrow, and we are driving away." I kid you not - I remember it like it was yesterday, because it sums rather quickly ... the whole idea of a doomsday event is worthless ... like where were this man and his family driving to in order to escape the world ending? I often wonder what they thought the next day and the weeks and years since about how ridiculous their beliefs actually were.

At least, imho, this 2012 prediction is another "hype event" just to get people all stirred up for not reason. Nobody can predict what God knows ... nobody!!

I will tell what I'm thinking right now. This has something to do with
an event that only happens once in a few ages now and then to do
with astronomy. Remember the song Aquarius? I think this will be
the begining of world peace if you ask me. Think our whole solar
system will be lined up in profile. This phenomon will be quite an
event that will take place. I don't really think it's the end of the
world. Like the Lord himself said. No one knows the time or hour
of his coming. Only God knows when that will take place. It might
be the begining of a new age of some sort but not the end of the
world. I still have it on my mind though and pray about it.

    Dear Judy,

with all my respect I would tell you, that superstition and Faith are not the same. Such things have nothing to do with the religion - they rather trace back to the times when people had fear of lightning.

Even if God wanted to put an end to our world, it could be easily done without any sign or omen visible to us.

    Regards, Andrew

Thanks Andrew. I needed that. But I believe this to be only for the
Mayan people. The area has all ready suffered bad hurricanes like
Rita which caused flooding, a volcano that erupted not too long ago,
earthquakes, and now the mexican and american government won't
leave them alone. How would you like it if our american government
decided to take your property and set up an oil rig, or a military post,
or anything that was a waste of our tax money and time? I know
that I wouldn't like it if they did that to me.

I think that it may just be very much possible, but not in the actuall sense. I think the world will not end as we know it, but more like the wordly values bill be "dead". I think its a very Nietzche approach - just like he said that the god is dead and the man killed him - of course he didnt mean that literally, but more like human values (or rather lack thereof) no longer allowed God to exist in their heart. So maybe thats what these predictions mean - technology takes place of nature, people have no eartly values - other than monetary profits... things like that.

Although, i myself dont really give to much thought and attention to those predictions, but if i were to explain one - that would be my explanation.

I have a better answer for this prediction. Because I looked it up
in an astronomy book. What we will witness will be the alignment
of the planets and the appearence of a comet. I just found that
out just a while ago. I don't think it's the end of the world either.
Jesus is alive a well too. Man did kill him but he came back to
life three days later like he promised.

That is very true because the bible won't lie about that. Jesus did
say to keep watch for he will come like a thief in the night. Ever
had your house broken into when you were away? For one thing you
didn't know that the thief was going to come while you were gone
and break into your house to steal something that was probably very
valuable. That is how the Lord will come. That will be a suprise for
    everyone.

    Hi Krummhorn,

sorry I have somehow missed this one before - it is the best answer I have ever read about predictions.

    Cheers
    Andrew

    Damn, I hate missing threads!

What do I think? If the world is going to end in 2012 then bring it on, I'm over it. But seriously, I don't believe it for one minute. I also don't believe in Heaven or Hell, nor god for that matter. As to superstition/religion...each to their own just don't ram it down my throat.

I don't think the world will end like that. I think before that happens
we will be called to our sacred place first and the all heck will break
loose. We've had an aquarius in 1977 and the world didn't end.
This one will also have a comet to line up with us this time and the
pull of it's gravity will have an effect on us somehow. It would be
nice if it brought on world peace for a while.

    Hi C5

    Welcome back

As to the topic. well, I will wait and see, whatever happens life is too short to worry about the end.

I shall try to make the most of what is now, if something is meant to happen there is nothing I can do about it.

After all as the song says. "One day at a time sweet Jesus."

    Margaret
