Criminal Punishment - Your Thoughts

I have seen too many mistakes made by both the judiciary and the police in NZ to reinstall the death penalty but I have no qualms in making prisons a lot tougher

There is a state somewhere in the USA where the prisoners have to wear pink, are in a barbed wire enclosure and live in tents. They are not allowed to weight train or drink coffoe and they all work for the good of the local community. It costs bugger all to build and maintain the prisons and the prison goverenor is re-elected year after year after year. His idea is to make it so unpleasant noboddy wants to go back.

Its OK being fighting mad but that won't fix it

At the moment Obama seems to be holding the British solely responsible. A lot of Brits will suffer financially as we are heavily invested in BP via pension funds etc. It is in all our interests to bring the situation under control as soon as possible. I have witnessed several events such as this, the nearest to home being a few years back off the coast of Brittany. It not only had a tragic effect on wildlife but decemated the tourist trade in that area, which was mainly small businesses. Don't fight each other, fight the oil slick and the problem causing it.

I think all Oil companies should tackle this together a combined effort is needed, it could happen again, like the boy scouts "be prepared"

It has just been announced by the British Goverment that there will be a reduction in the number of criminals sent to prison. Oh goody goody. I am sick to death reading abount repeat offenders having their hand held and being told thatt "they will get one more chance" (probably no 122) and please do not mug any more pld ladies as the police may have to leave their nice warm station and their tea will get cold. My friend who ia an aerial and satellite specialist is currently designing a system for one of the largest prisons which will put broadband and cable directly into all the cells. Lets get Sherif Arpaio over here. Prison does not seem like the sharp shock it should be what with drugs, tabacco TV gyms etc etc. We need some ex military police running these places not someone fron Mothercare.

Obama is not the World's Saviour that he was touted to be by the Democrat Machine - Don't count on him to pull any rabbits out of the hat in re to the oil spill.

On his performance up to now I am suprised when he pulls his head out of his hat. As far as tha atrocities that his mother states were commited on his family by the British, they actually had no troops in the country at the time. He needs to join forces with Mel Gibson. He likes Brirish bashing as well.

Right Earth is making us feel her pain down south. Hurricane
#1 is on it's way and people are scared of what might happen.
A lot of marine life is going to die as a result.

Our Government has just announced that smoking will no longer be allowed in prisons
the reaction from the inmates was that they will not be happy and threaten violence, now if they were kept on ball and chains all would be fine

I agree, anyway where the hell do thay get the money for cigarettes. And would they sue the goverment for allowing them to smoke if they contracted cancer. I would also limit their oxygen allowance.

They get paid for some of the work that they do in prison (crazy NZ)

That money should go towards their keep, not luxurys.

I agree, what is the point of prisons if they are like holiday camps. If they were not very nice places to be, people would resist going back inside.
