• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

Zadok The Priest

Hi,

Anyone played this? ... I've just been asked for it for a Wedding next month as some incidental music.

Ordered the sheet music from a supplier and it'll be here next week sometime, but I just wondered if any of you have played it, and wondered how difficult it is on the Organ.

Played it a few times and to be honest I prefer it to the Queen Of Sheba because it's easier to take shortcuts if needed.

I also prefer playing Zadok to singing in it, largely because my earliest memory of singing in it, it became known afterwards as 'Dok the Priest' because the entire choir managed to miss the first note. It was fascinating hearing this gradual swell of aaaaaaaaaDOK THE PRIEST!

Soubasse -that's hilarious, how an entire choir can miss the first note points to the music director as my first thought ...

Hi Soubasse,

Queen of Sheba is also on the list for this wedding, as the bridge and groom leave the church.

Cheers!

Well, it is one of the first things they start complaining about you know, feeling as though they're being walked over.

Aha, QoS as well Jonesey? Oh, well, all I can say is, if you get lost, arpeggiate anything in sight.

arpeggiate anything in sight ... now that's what all church organists seem to do who are floundering around for their next strike of inspiration do when improvising ... love it.

Would any of you believe that 'Bridge' was just a typo?. :p

Mind you, I'm prone to saying the wrong thing - at our church they have a Litch gate, and I once referred to it as a Lynch gate. Not one of my better moments.

:)

No ;)

Catholic churches actually have Lynch gates - makes it easier to catch heretics! Naturally, ours is at the entry to the organ loft.

Well, the music's finally arrived, so I can crack on and start learning it.
Looks to be a very nice arrangement actually - looking forward to playing it.

How many of us over the years would've loved to "dock the priest" ?!:grin:

Zorbic the Greek eh? :D While we're onto to silly things to do with titles, I'm sure our choir can't be the only one to refer to Palestrina's Secret Service ?
