    New York-Sydney in 45 minutes...

Or Auckland-Atlanta! The environmentally friendly way to travel long distance and save time. The Billionaire Howard Hughes saw this as the best way to travel and now with fuel supply feedstock needing to be broadened, you can burn liquid oxygen and methane which will yield water as the exhaust gas - check out the vid:

And the best thing is that you'll only be in motormode for about ten minutes from start to 523,000 ft above earth and to reach 18,000 mph, then the motor gets shut-down and you'll glide to your destination.

That is so neat! It would be wonderful if we could travel like that.
Ever saw the rocket plane video too? This one is really awesome.

Wow CD, just think where you could go at that speed.

I wonder how you would feel after landing. With planes like that the world really is getting smaller.

    Hi Ms. Margaret,

With that vehicle you'll be somewhat afflicted by travel through all those time- zones. In 90 minutes you'll have made one revolution around the earth. The progenitor for this new project is a former U.S. Air Force experimental vehicle called the X-20 Dyna Soar - more on it below:

    That is interesting.

Once round the world in 90 minutes, that's progress for you.

Wow Ms. Margaret - you are very close to the 2K club

Back on topic: and the best thing about it is that you'll utilise the earth's gravitational pull to keep an extremely high speed.

    Cheers,

Howard Hughes was indeed a "visionary" ... a remarkable human being to have all these great ideas, and yet the technology didn't exist to create his dreams.

My personal thought on him becoming a recluse in later years was that he got so frustrated with himself and the lack of technology to see his ideas come to mass fruition. I can only wonder how things would be different if he were living today.

    Dear Master Krummhorn,

Excellent points you make dear sir. By what you shared I am reminded that *one is not a prophet in one's own country*.

Donald Trump is a rich guy like Howard Hughes was. Do you think that
maybe Donald Trump would want to go up in something like that?
I wonder too how much it would cost to ride one of these. Could a
person on a limited income could ride one of these or would it take
someone who is filthy rich to ride one. My questions like that are
    endless.

    Hi Ms. Judy,

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Donald Trump would like to take a trip in such a vehicle.

The whole thing is I think totally implausible with current areospace technology, sadly.

    Hi CT64,

Methinks that it is the lack of political will that stymies the project, not the lack of aerospace technology. As was proven by the X-20 project, the technology is already there. Plus, you're using the earth's gravity to maintain a high rate of speed, not mechanical force.

    Cheers,

I think the technology is present, and agree with CD that this type or project will not "get off the ground" in the near future. Not to mention the cost of the X-20 type aircraft which will require hundreds to be built - at whose expense - and then only the very "elite" and insanely rich peeps will be able to afford this kind of travel anyway.

But, the thought of trans-continental flight in under an hour is intriguing.
