20th Century Churches...

Here is a beautiful very special and very loved church from Copenhagen built in the Gothic style/architecture. Please notice that anyone can walk the steps on the outside of the tower of the church to the top. Take care of the pidgeons though. And do not watch Alfred Hitchkock´s old movie "The Birds" before you try it out.

It was built in 1682-96, and the tower rebuilt in 1749-52:

Vor Frelsers Kirke (Københavns Kommune)

Vor Frelsers Kirke - translated to the english language: The Church of our Saviour

sir Corno Dolce

Sorry I did not catch the 20th Century thing, but then I am sure you´ll forgive me.

So to make up for my mistake, l´ll give you my personal church close to where I live, built in the beginning of the 1977, the name is: Nr. Uttrup Kirke, zip code 9400 Nørresundby - Chicago is not my town, but Nørresundby:

The link on top is Nr. Uttrup Kirke, so just press on your left side of the site Nr. Utttrup Kirke, and you will see pictures from the inside in modern building style and picture below: Hvorup Kirke, close by my living quarters as well, a more traditional Danish church. If you stay for a spell on the site, you can see different motives from the inside of the church. Sir Frederik Magle, our host here at the MIMF both knows the church and the architects, who designed it - the Exner family, it has a pipe organ as well.

I will always be partial to my own church. It was built in 1928 and is
still beautiful. Your churches are just as pretty.

For the birds...

CD, your first post shows a beautiful church that reminds me of a dutch inspired church, especially with the part on the right that looks like the exterior of a dutch colonial house. The second link, however gave me an error and I couldn't see it.

Intet, that church is incredible! I would love to walk up those stairs. Here's a link for the movie "The Birds" so you know what CD was talking about.

It was quite a movie...scared the heck out of people. The Birds and Psycho were two of Alfred Hitchcock's most famous thrillers of all time.

There is a particularly horrid example of 1960s architecture on George Street, Sydney: the Church of St. Peters Julian (Roman Catholic). Not a pretty building, and I'll see if I can't get a photo of it with my new baby.

Hi Stephen and sir Corno Dolce

sir Corno Dolce, I could not, unfortunately, get a visible picture from your link, in fact a sign said: I could not get access.

Stephen, I am thrilled and glad to read you´ve been a fan of scary movies by the master Alfred Hitckcock, like me. Thanks for the links. I remember both movies from my childhood, tooooo well, you know, alone at home.

On topic:

Here´s the Sacre Cæur Church from the Mont Martre in Paris, France which I have visited severel times years ago, while working in the EU.

Montmartre, Paris.

Church
Basilica of the Sacré Cœur was built on Montmartre from 1876 to 1912 by public subscription as a gesture of expiation after the defeat of 1871 in the Franco-Prussian War. Its white dome is a highly visible landmark in the city, where just below it artists still set up their easels each day amidst the tables and colorful umbrellas of Place du Tertre.
At the beginning of his political career, the future French statesman Georges Clemenceau (1841–1929) was mayor of Montmartre.

The link to Wiki from Finland I have achieved, awesome church almost underground.

Here is a link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florence_Cathedral to the Cathedral of Florence, Italy and the story about it. I will visit this church in the beginning of August, when I travel to Italy by train to visit my girl friend at her summer studio in the city Florence, where her exebition and art agent also are.

Here are two 20th Century Scandinavian Churches which I particularly like.

The first is Gruntvig's Kirke in Copenhagen which I had the pleasure of visiting some years ago. While I was there I purchased a recording to the Marcussen organ.

The second I have not seen but the 1992 Johannes Klais organ is reresented in my collection of recordings.

Both churches are spectacular in their own way.

Enjoy
