What happened to Discipline?

If that was my kid I would have fanned the kid's fanny and have the kid personally and publicly apologise for the assault.

For one thing some of us from my age 48 and up didn't get raised up with
Dr. Spock and those who push child abuse a little too far. It won't kill a
kid for getting it's fanny blistered. I'm living proof that discipine works
and sometimes a little harsh does the job. These young girls who get
pregnant as early as twelve are a disgrace. A kid having a kid. My dad
would have took the roof off the house if he found out I was pregnant at
twelve. He didn't like it after I got married and I was 26 wanting to start
a family with my new husband.

Well, then there's an issue of a stressless upbringing.

"No honey, don't worry about that broken glass. It's not your fault. Mrs. Brown is a witch anyway"

"Drugs? Yes son, if you only want to. But don't be late for supper"

If you know what I mean...

Yes, the *broken windows theory* - If they sense they can get away with it, they will then graduate to the next level of mayhem, and it finally ends with them in prison for the rest of their lives or having committed suicide by cop.

These so called laws have it where you can't even touch your kid and it's
child abuse or mistreated sexually. You get in trouble for disciplining your
child in public. I've had my hands smacked many a time for picking up
something and my jaw popped for back talking. After a while you learn
not to do these things. I have always got my things stolen by people who
can't keep their sticky fingers off and they know just how to steal.
I stole something one time and my dad got a tree limb and tore me up.
That tought me a lessen. Now days it's called child abuse. I don't. It is
better that parents teach the kids right from wrong instead of the long
arm of the law later.

Hi Judy, I quite agree with you. When I was a child I would never be allowed to do anything bad, my parents were allowed to punish me. And for most kids all it took was a chat with the local policeman. The trouble nowadays is that there are no policemen on the streets, and if there were they would not be allowed to give a naughty child a clip round the ear.

The kids know they can get away with it, so they do.

Me too, Judy. I can tell you I had my share of bloody noses from being on the receiving end of the back of my mother's hand...but I deserved it for mouthing off. I can't believe that people refuse to discipline their children nowadays. You should have to prove that you can be a parent before actually giving birth...you need a license to drive a car, don't you?

As for these people who call the police when they see a parent smack a kid in public, I bet they wouldn't like it too much if THEY were given the little snot to take charge of.

I once was in the grocery and a mother and a kid about 9 years old were behind me. The kid was screaming that he wanted something. She said no. He had a tantrum and screamed nonstop. She gave him a little slap in the mouth and told him to behave. Someone whipped out their cell phone and called the cops. When the woman got to the parking lot, she was arrested. My opinion, that person that called the cops should have been REWARDED with being given the kid to bring up.

If that were my kid in the video, it would be off to military school or at least reformed school.

Well, Here in France children still have much respect for there parents/Grand Parents. Could it be a matter of upbringing? I ask someone else! Where I live
in the SW of France we have no such problems. There again, we are "old europe". Nice.:):):)

I think also the trouble is that nowadays families are so spread accross the country. Certainly they seem to be here, no grandparents just down the road to give guidence, most of the parents both work, my mother never worked when we were growing up. She always knew where we were, and what we were doing.

I'll bet he's all for discipline when it is called for. You would think that most "sane" people would be...or should be.

Time and time again I see this debate coming up on all manner of internet forums and it's at least encouraging to see that close to 100% of all contributors feel the same way about it as those who have posted here.

I for one am sick to death with having my job made so bloody difficult by the wowsers who cry "abuse" the instant you lay a hand on a student. When I was at school, anyone who spoke out of turn or rudely answered back would get the back of the teachers hand, or in some instances, the cane (not that I ever got it of course!), but these days, it's de rigueur and a teacher can get into trouble for even shouting angrily at the students.

I've also seen far worse examples on YouTube of Political-Correctness-gone-completely-insane. Even the term "Politically Correct" gets my dander up - this implies that it's "correct" to allow essentially no censorship on TV or radio so kids as young as 5 have access to vile and offensive language, and it's "correct" to allow anti-social and let's face it, downright nasty behaviours to go un-checked and without consequence?

Political Correctness and it's love-child named "Absence of Discipline" has done more than most to completely arse up todays society.

Margaret,

We ARE on the same page.

Stephen and Ms. Margaret

Guys, are there room for one more on your page?

We call President Bush for Junior, because of all the right reasons, like they do it in American newspapers.

We also title President Junior as the 3 P´s - Picked - Payed for - and Puppeteered.

Incredible what devastating results this alcoholic, born with a silver spoon in his mouth, has done to the former GREAT USA. In only eight years he and his republican government (the www.newamericancentury.com a fascist movement of fake Christian Crusadors for www.usforworldsupremacy.com) has turned the USA in to the most hated nation on the planet, at the same trime according to international anti-terror agencies - the worst ri9sk towards world peace, and of course President Junior´s announcement to the world the day he announced the invation of Iraq - against the rules of the U.N. and the rules on warfare, suggested by the USA in 1947 - the Geneva Convention and The Human Rights, which prohibits torture on any prisoner.

Not unlike Adolf Hitler´s ideas of a thousand year Reich.

They had it all, nothing was impossible untill President Junior and his warlovers took office to support the military complex with new government contracts - for more needless lies to support new relentless wars, killings, torture and the most important issue - more money for themselves, while 47 million Americans have nothing at all, not even a regular adress, but are shipped to skid row.
