"Wanted" with Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman and few other actors I don't even know. What's the movie about? A frustrated office worker learns that he is the son of a professional assassin, and that he shares his father's superhuman killing abilities. Ehh, it was so booooring...
last time i went to a theatre was uh i can't remember but i can recall the movie very well for some particular reasons. it was "Lust, Caution" about a chinese resistant girl under japanese occupation who falls in a very passionate ( well, flesh-oriented ) love with a reputedly merciless, cruel collaborator while trying to organize his assasination, as a symbol of resistance. sorry for those who'd like to watch this movie if they didn't before but the girl dies at the end with all her friends. the execution is ordered by the same man she fell in love with. watching this with a chinese mate does add something.
Aloha sunwaiter,
Yes, I saw Ang Lee's *Lust, Caution* - quite intimate carnal scenes are shown - my Lady and I were both surprised.

The Dark Knight! Much more than a standard batman flick ; had deep character analysis. Was really surprised....
hey Corno! i must say i was with my lady too and she seemed less surprised than me to watch those " carnal scenes". at least this movie succeeds in what so many others fail: surprising people. dark and beautiful.
Aloha sunwaiter,
Ah well, my lady and I are somewhat *old school* - we love intimate that stays intimate - not splashed up on a movie screen for the whole world to see.

mm. i understand and i can tell you i'm quite "old school" too, despite my age ( wich will remain secret and unimportant ) but what i meant is that newness can wear this kind of form. if the screen couldn't display this and other things we don't show or even do in real life, movies would all be filled with people in tuxedos and black hats only ( by the way did you notice the classy style of the actors in "lust caution"? ). what is striking with actors is that they're often on the frontier between real and fake, when they try so hard to make fakeness look real. i've always been a little conservative about life and how i should live it, but when it comes to art, i can appreciate extreme freedom, when it's on good purpose, according to me of course. this could be discussed for ever anyway.
just for the pleasure of changing the topic, i would say that the original soundtrack to wong-kar-wai "in the mood for love" is nice but gets so irritating when you heard the main theme three times already. In the middle of the movie i almost forced myself to stay put on my seat, telling myself " come on it's just music, you can so it.. see? what a beautiful love story as only asians can tell it... wow she's beautiful, and.. hey what's happening? oh nooo here comes the THEME again". it was the most strange experience i had in a cinema.

Aloha sunwaiter,
You make some very interesting points about *Lust,Caution* and *wong-car-wai*.
Methinks it all boils down to how much we as individuals can personally tolerate our most intimate acts with our loved ones being graphically portrayed. My Lady and I feel that it cheapens and makes tawdry something that is so private. We all have personal *limits*. Once they are crossed we feel violated.

yes. anyway it wasn't me and my girlfriend on the screen. feeeoow! djeez... if it had, i WOULD have felt violated. my own personnal limits in graphical representation are about physical pain, injuries, etc.
whatever we may put in the discussion again, i think next time i'll go the the movies i will choose something a little lighter, like a good ole comedy.
random choice: lalo schifrin - dirty harry's creed
Aloha sunwaiter,
Yeah man, good ole comedy........A classic flick for me would be *The Sting* - yes, that is not comedy but its a very entertaining film.
Cheers,

i would like such "classics" as "groundhog day" by harold ramis, 1993 or "la crise" by coline serreau, 1992. those years were a golden era for me!
The last good movie I watched was Trans America ... a classic. Sadly I didn't see it on the big screen.
since i bought a portable pc i've watched some dvd's including "dirty harry". i always get round eyes and distrustful grins when i say it is one of my favourite films. same for "conan the barbarian". in both cases, wonderful music score.
Aloha sunwaiter,
Yes, even I was fascinated by soundtrack to *Conan The Barbarian* - In the orchestral score the composer Basil Poledouris calls for 24 Orchestral Horns - Now thats opulently rich!!!
