• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

Super-low organ frequencies...

Ron Hartigan

New member
I just posted that I was able to determine the lowest note as 17 Hz, and upon researching it I was right; 16.31 Hz; pretty dang close, with no training or experience whatsoever.

Ron Hartigan! While I appreciate the enthusiasm of your posting here,
I'm going to have to be lowering more than my notes to maybe bring you down a little,
but I looked here thinking Corno Dolce was back and was adding to a thread he began.
You are adding to a post that was put up in 2008.

Human beings, especially whites with ancestors who went through the Dark Ages,
think of life mostly in terms of themselves, more than other peoples of the world.
Human senses have a very small range, more about being in the flesh, than scientific.
The rest of the universe, even the senses of other creatures on this earth,
are far more dynamic, have a greater spread along sensatory paths,
but even they aren't part of the eternal flow the exists beyond all of us.

That's easy to say, and could be seen as a generic approach, so let me be specific.

You are describing notes at 17Hz, and then 16.31 Hz, with previous mentions of Hertz that actually hurts.
You know what began as meditative, new age music, often featured the sounds of humpback whales,
and then humpback whales had recording success on their own, even if they didn't get paid,
or even get a few tons of left-over fish dumped in front of them.
Are humpback whales really singing, or are they emitting frequencies?

And no, you don't have to be a former Marineland employee with training to get into that.

During WW2 ultra low frequency was experimentally used as a weapon it was known to cause involuntary evacuation of the bowels, unfortunately being none directional it affected every one friend and foe alike, so while it worked it was of no use.

Ultra low and ultra high frequencies are both very expensive,
even in terms of the emanations of deep ocean humpback whales.
And when they release voluntary evacuations of the bowels,
look what it costs as ambergris.
I'm not trying to get lumped in with you, JHC.

No, of course not John I understand!
As I recall it gave rise to the term 'The trickle down theory" which economists now use to mean something quite different.

I just received some relayed humpback whale emanations,
from their orca friends at Marineland.
It was some whales who were doing the watching,
as those visiting economists walked out on the pier and trickled down on them.
They said everyone was complaining about how windy it was,
a couple were saying the water is cold,
but only a man from New Zealand found out how deep it was.

Here's a long number I not only understand but is at hand.
This is my 1,993rd posting, going to hit 2,000 soon.
I lost a lot of postings during the domain transition,
and could have been up, way up, there sooner,
but that's just the fontrack of my life.

I've been looking, typing and retyping,
but this might be the first time I'm lost without a response.

All those Welland jokes about hanging one off a canal bridge,
and I'm hung up.
Our canal was bypassed in the sixties,
and now that I'm 65 maybe I'm bypassing it too.
