Kuhlau
New member
Good morning, afternoon or evening, depending on your time zone.
I've been a member here for just a little while, but I neglected to post an introduction when I first joined - so here goes:
My name is Friedrich Kuhlau, and I'm sure this name will be recognised instantly on a board such as this as belonging to the Germano-Danish composer of the Classical period who was a contemporary of Beethoven. I'm not a musician, nor do I work in the classical music industry, and I neither read nor write music - although I do write for a living.
My love affair with classical music began at 18. Now, at 35, I have thousands of recordings in my collection and a particular love of music from the Romantic period on into the early Modern period.
Despite amassing a wealth of CDs and downloads, I've still yet to experience everything that some commentators would regard as the 'core' repertoire of Western Art Music, although I have heard (and do enjoy) a sizeable chunk of it. My intention is to make a specialism of British classical music, especially that written in the first half of the 20th century. Progress in this direction is slow but steady.
So that's a little about me. I'm looking forward to contributing here (I've been a member of various forums for several years, many of these geared towards classical music), and I'm currently writing a blog which is essentially a space for me to review - as far as I'm able - various recordings in my own collection. When I'm happy to start showing it to the world, I'll be sure to advertise it here.
Here's to continuing chatting with some of you soon.
