Hi, First post in this forum :clap:
I play guitar and I recently heard the song Greensleeves, since then I've been desperate to find similar songs because I really like traditional English music, especially the ones for classical guitar.

So, can anybody help find them? because I've haven't had any luck looking in the internet

Welcome to the forum! I play the guitar and my favorite is Jesu Joy
of Man's Desire by Bach. I also like the Mexican or Spanish type of
music. I know of another English melody which How Great Thou Art
came from and Amazing Grace. You can try those out.

Aloha Pan_lotr,

Welcome aboard! Please do make yourself feel right at home and stay for a spell. Traditional English music, eh? Thats quite a large category - maybe you can define the time period of the English Traditional music you're looking for. Here's one Traditional English tune called *Barbara Allen* - from the 17th Century"

Actually I'm looking for songs more like scaborough fair and classical gas, songs that don't need lyrics you just like the melody.

Some of your classic music is played on the guitar. Some spanish really
sounds great on the guitar but you want one like Greensleeves. I will
say to try some Bach or Mozart on the guitar and some soft jazz.

I checked out the site of the guitarist and I loved it. I've only heard a dozen and I think I'll be spending quite some time on it. I really didn't like the fact that he can't upload the tabs (I'm in Greece so I can't send the letter) and I do my best trying to play them by sound.

Thanks a lot!

Anything will do. I would prefer tab but if the songs only exists in sheet I'll take it. I prefer Jon Sayles's version of Air for example but he can only send sheet music.

Well, if it were me, I'd be hunting around using Google, Wikipedia & YouTube. The Big Three! :)

This Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folksongs
has links at the bottom to: http://www.bl.uk/collections/sound-archive/traditional_music.html
and: http://www.mudcat.org/

Mudcat links to: http://www.ezfolk.com/
which has a heap of PD music here: http://www.ezfolk.com/library/

YouTube's search facility: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=greensleeves+guitar&search_type=&aq=0&oq=greensleeves
brings up a very nice version of Greensleeves: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9iywm0Cn1E
and you'd chase up other material via the links on both those pages.

With Google, you could just do a general search: http://www.google.com/search?num=10...+OR+traditional+guitar+tabs&btnG=Search&meta=
or use the name of a suitable song; a site that has tabs for "Barbara Allen" is very likely to have other similar material:
http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&q="barbara+allen"+guitar+tabs&btnG=Search&meta=

Pan_lotr! Greensleeves: traditional, dated, not cool or old school. Guitarwise: Jeff Beck on his first album. Instrumental all the way. But, before he switched to a Fender Stratocaster, or settled down with a Telecaster. His best Les Paul: "And Then We Were Lovers"

I still like playing Mexican music on the guitar like the polkas. Try Mon Amon.
I think that's how it's spelled.

while we're on the topic

I've heard this tune before and was wondering if someone might have an idea what it's name is or where it comes from

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzRTkWhtDYs

The tune starts at 3:23, I want to cover it but I don't know the rules regarding video game music if it's originally from it, but i know i've heard this somewhere else.

It sounds very repetitious to me but for some reason it sounds English in the 'Green sleeves' style.

Oh, I'll be following this thread as well... I've been looking for similar music to sing.

One idea is to check out Celtic Women, they have of course more "modern" interpretation, but a lot of the songs they sing are traditional celtic songs.

Personally I like the Chieftains and the Dubliners and at the moment I am d/l The Bothy Band collection but not sure how good they are?
