The New Global Hype of America.

As a Canadian of Scottish Highland ancestry, please, let me comment on what news is known to me. I dabble as a newspaper reporter, music columnist, mayoral candidate, Aaronic Priest, social worker, but mostly as a pro musician who builds his own electric guitars. I hope my opinion is considered. It's a given that America is a brutal, invasive and debauched empire, Washington hijacked by Texans, Clinton winning unexpectedly when no senior Democrat thought they could beat Bush. It was the economy, stupid. Clinton made a profit. Again, it's the economy, now global through computerization. I have no financial plastic, no paper investments and gather no interest, so my accounting stance is totally neutral.

There have been two times when American political news made me cry. When I was in grade seven the P.A. came on, and we were told President John F. Kennedy had been assassinated. Girls stood up crying, some hugging in shock. Other girls and some boys started crying. This got me crying, and we were told we could go home. When former First Secretary of State General Colin Powell, live, said he was going to vote for Barack Obama, tears gathered in my right eye and I giggled uncontrollably for three to five seconds. I thought about what I would do, if I had my finger on the button, the government, and the pulse of the American people. I talk to a lot of Americans. They come up to me mostly as tourists in Niagara Falls, so that's a lot of different, usually more wealthy people. And there are a lot fewer of them these last few years, leading to layoffs here.

The billions Bush wants to give to Wall Street, adding $2,300 on the head of every American? Why not give it to the home owners and students, to help pay off their userous debts, preforwarding it to the money lenders, financial benders and computer gangbangers?

Keep paying all your soldiers and weapons manufacturers. Just bring all your covert agents and military back to within the borders of your country. Everyone would still get paid as expected, but soldiers could be deployed in country for the natural emergencies America still embarasses itself with. The rest of the world would be so happy, we would gladly clean up your irradiated, bombletted and mined outrages. Moving out of Columbian government since 1947 would clean up your coke problem overnight. Moving out of Afghanistan would clean up your heroin problem overnight. I'm not saying you have to stop killing yourselves, or repair your infrastructure. You can drink and get high with your own meth and weed. Partying doesn't have to change, but maybe you will start to follow your own prophets, Joseph Smith Jr., Geronimo, or straight and narrow Abraham Lincoln.

How many Americans got an automotive start with a Volkswagen? Why? The car and van were built to be dependable and economical, to help rebuild war-torn Germany. Why are 500 horsepower motors still being installed in public vehicles? 10% of the American population doesn't know plastic is a petro-chemical product.

If you took the money you spend on the businesses of medical providers, and just used it on doctors and hospitals, everyone would have free medicare, like most other developed countries, and actually leave a surplus. If you took the money you spend on creating artificial life and bioweapons, and gave it to veterans and orphanages, a lot of hurting people would have a healthy chance at life.

It would take a while for the average American to see themselves as global citizens, as the rest of the world does, but it only will add the freedom and foreign acceptance you so proudly desire. A just economy would allow more hand-made goods, live entertainment and local manufacturing. Respect for yourselves would open up respect for your First Nations, who kept your land pure, The Great Spirit alive, and their contributions would be immense.

I could go on, but there are other lives to consider. Please, take away your transPacific and transAtlantic sensors and sense-shattering audio weaponry. Our fellow mammals who have bigger brains and bigger hearts than you and I, will find relief. Maybe they will join swimmers on the beach, help adrift wrecks like they used to and some still try to do. A Humpback whale can stun or kill with sonic abilities, and I'm sure they're tempted, but no human has been known to suffer this fate. How truly wonderful it would be for every American, to feel that God's nature truly loves you.

I'm not asking for "inspector privileges" to "monitor" your atomic stockpiles and weapons readiness. I'm not asking to measure your environmental pollution. I don't have to. You brag about it and I can count the foreign dead and the acid rain lakes up here. A country successed by slaveries, divided South against North, now Republican against Democrat, sustained by bleeding the rest of the world, has surely set a template for global empire. But believe me, there is no sane person in the rest of the world trying to duplicate what you are. I applaud Russia for telling it like it is, and walking away from your cold war table.

The American dream we see? sittin' in de club, wit a cell bein' down wit rippers, doin'a'blunt, nuttin' domestic. It gets better at resorts and worse overseas, where The Ugly American has been since the sixties. Keeping it to yourselves until you get it together is always the best advice. Your hospitals are spreading the new disease, antibiotic resistant given to foreign patients. But that's coming from uh, Upariver Africa, isn't it? And since you're there, it's too late. You can debate every four years. You can try to feel good about yourselves. But the truth shall set you free. Too bad that won't be underwritten for you.

I type this as a fifty-seven year old Canadian, just a grade 12 graduate, grabbing online time with a borrowed or public computer. What can you say today? This is my pursuit of happiness.

Wow! I applaud your honesty and value your opinion. I have thought along similar lines so many times. Just this morning while watching the news I had to think: If the close to $2 Billion spent on the presidential election campaigning was spent on social programs, how much better off would every citizen be? If, say, legislation were enacted that FORBADE candidates from raising money and FORCING them to accept the same amount from the government for the purposes of campaigning, would not everyone come out the winner? If the laws were changed so that candidates could only campaign for 2 months like up here, wouldn't that leave people in the running actually doing their jobs, instead of campaigning for 2 years prior to an election? Wouldn't that stop most of the nausea heaped upon the American public prior to these elections?

America IS a great country, but...it is not king of the world (someone should whisper that in Bush's ear).

Retain your capitalism but adopt some more socialistic viewpoints when it comes to citizenry and then you would have a population that doesn't worry about health care or the price of drugs.

For all the bad-mouthing McCain has been doing about denegrading a one-payer healthcare provider, I haven't noticed that he has dropped his federal coverage. And if the republicans had gotten their way and privatized social security, just where would that be now with the economic crisis in the country?

There has to be a happy medium somewhere. I hope it can be reached...for the good of ALL.

it all started when the people wanted their own king...and so King Saul was anointed due to the insistent public demand, regardless of the cards laid to them...

There's lots of truth in what C5Says. But the UK is no better. What I find most ridiculous is that huge sums of money are spent to 'deal' with a crisis nobody in government or the financial sector even spoke about ! They suddenly announced it !!! Nor any broadcaster - till it was 'too late'. In fact several months ago these economies were supposed to be in 'good shape' - able to deal with anything. So now the taxpayer pays to keep open these massive and corrupt institutions and leaves it to the same corrupt people to fix! And still nobody knows how deep the pit is !!

Finally, nobody seems able to say exactly what the cause of the global financial problem actually IS. Food and commodities prices rise hugely and we have in fact 'engineered' recessions but, in fact, the supply/demand situation for these commodities is about the same as it has been for years. It really hasn't changed. Nothing could possibly justify this massive and continuing scam.

Politicians and bankers prove beyond doubt that society gets the government and the society they vote for. Instead of voting for good people they keep voting for totally corrupt people. Whole dynasties of them. To me, there's no longer any doubt we have governments operating within governments according to their own unaccountable and sick global agenda.

Government by the corporations for the corporations, or what ???
