I heard this song a while ago, but don't know its author or title!

I made a rough .midi file of the first 40 seconds of it -- which you can listen to (its attached to this post)
if you recongize it, please let me know!
thanks so much.

). Anyhow, I'll keep thinking about it - hopefully someone here has the answer!

Unfortunately, its not Call Me by Blondie -- the first few notes are the same, but the rest is not.

I see. So this is a song that you heard, then recreated hoping someone could help you figure out the band and title? So what exactly was the genre of the music? Was it metal (death, hardcore, thrash, etc.), or something else?

the style of the music was almost identical to that of the .mid file. i chose the instruments to give as close a match as possible to the original. its not really metal, i guess. more new-age/computer generated, or something like that

I can't place it either... I listened to it a few times, and its so familiar! There should be some kind of search engine that you can search the tune of a song, but that would be very hard to code or make. But I do like that song a lot, so when the name gets posted I'm going to download it.

Can't put my finger on it either.
But it sounds almost exactly like "Call Me" as stated above.

Do you know what era its from? Current?90's?80's?Earlier?

I listened to both tunes back to back, and although I see a similarity, I do not think that they are the same song. Where did you aquire the MID file, and would it be possible to get a higher quality song file that we could compare accurately?

I'd like to hear the whole song... I think there's more to it that would give it away. Like everyone else, I instantly thought "Call Me" and like everyone else, it sounds amazingly familiar after it deviates...

I heard the similarity, however there were distinct patterns within the song that did not match "Call Me". I will listen to it again to make sure, but I am almost positive that it is not the same song.

Edit: After reviewing it again, I still believe that it is not the same song. Maybe the composer of the MIDI edited it slightly? I do not know many technical musical terms, or else I could point out some of the differences.

One term which I'm sure you already know is 'melody' (i.e. "the melody is different"). True, the start sounds like Call Me, but I'm sure there are many songs that have a similar start, for example Sunny Afternoon by the Kinks.

I think what the previous poster seemed to be saying is not that the song is Call Me, but that it at first sounded like Call Me, but then when it deviated the song still sounded familiar...

Yes, thank you mhoarse. As you can probably tell, I have never really been taught the educational and formal side of music. I have taken guitar and bass lessons for most of my life, however I have never really played in a concert band. I am more "street smart" rather than intellectual when it comes to playing my musical instrument.

I too would have sworn it was Blondie, but you know how it is: artsists are constantly inpired by and borrowing from each other.

The midi file sounds like as if the riff from Call Me with a different middle 8...
