I was shocked to learn the news that London, today has been hit by seven connected terror attacks! (More info on the BBC front page)

My thoughts and condolences goes to the victims and their relatives in this sad hour where innocent people once again has been attacked by terrorism

I feel nothing but utter contempt towards the terrorists responsible for this crime. No cause whatsoever can even begin to excuse targeting innocent civilians on purpose.

Yes, there is a very real threat to Denmark and Italy too... unfortuantely there is nothing (or at least very little) we can do, other than hope any terrorist plot will be unravelled before it can be executed... the alternative is a perpetual state of paranoia which I don't think is good either (though somewhat understandable given the recent events)

Yeah, the best thing to do is probably to live in the now and not worry too much. You never know if or when its gonna happen again somewhere so why waste precious lifetime to worry about stuff and forget about enjoying life? Sometimes i guess its hard not to worry, though.

yes unfortunately. We are waging a war, so attacks on our own soil is what happens. Unfortunately it is the civil population that will suffer and governments getting possibility to increase surveillance and diminish our rights.

Where I see a great problem with terrorist attacks on european soil is that we have a larger muslim part of the population. Events like this might set a long chain of problems ablaze.

It's really horrific.
And on the day, yesterday, of a memorial event, new bombs shake the underground and busses yet again.

No good seldomly comes from warfare, and this is yet another proof of that.

In contrast - the other day I heard on the news that for the past 10 months over 8000 people have died in Iraq because of terrorist attacks, that's over 800 a month - an average of 26 a day. - 26 people killed every day for 10 full months...
two weeks ago approximately 52 died because of the bombing in London...

It's not that I in anyway condone terrorist actions - not at all!! - but put into perspective of just the incidents in Iraq over the past 10 months - it's only a small fraction - just a little above 0.5%

I hope they'll put an end to all these attacks around the world - somehow - some way...

My thoughts go out to them all!

unfortunately I don't think that situation will ease in the coming decade or so.. what I expect is that it will only get worse and worse from here.

Worst thinkable scenario is a civil war. Might sound unthinkable, but with the amount of stupidity that human beings can show once in awhile... the cruelest of actions are far from impossible. I don't say that it will happen.. but there is a chance it might.. and if it do so.. no sigle part will be to blame for it..

That's a scary thought. I find myself worried to use the subway now in Toronto even, after the London bombings.
It's so sad, I don't understand how they could justify killing so many people, and it baffles me to think that there are people like that everywhere who believe that violence and murder will solve anything.

it is not that I would justify the actions of terrorist.. but we set the battlefield ourselves.

Let me explain.
First of.. the ways of the western world and the world of orthodox islam is quite different. Religions and politics act in the same way as lifeforms do.. they have to make sure that they can stay active or they'll perish due to evolution. When we in the western world overruns the rest of the world, implementing in what we think is the right thing, free markets, and so-called "democracy"(an entire different discussion and I don't believe that we actually live in a democracy, but that discussion another time). Well.. their culture gets threatened.

If you look at it.. in the western world we have our freedom.. ability to do most things we like. But this has come as a result of us integrating old values. In orthodox islam there is a lot of values, the society being more unreformed and conservative.. and some people have an interest of keeping it that way.. others want reformation of course. When we invade their countries with McDonalds, KFC and tons of other consumer products.. their ways and culture as well gets threatened by a freemarket invasion. Might not be a military based invasion, but cultural.. yes.

While constantly seeking for new ways our markets can expand... we also go for getting as cheap products as possible. Hence the interest in not letting 3rd world countries get on their feet. We are as well hungry for natures resources.. like fossil fuels and minerals. As we have seen from the last years of our history.. the extend we go to achieve these are big.

When it comes to the battlefield.. read up on war philosphers like Sun Tzu. You have to know you enemy and you have to know your battleground. If the enemy has satellites and drones hovering above ones head.. plus multi-billion advanced warfare technology, able to pinpoint a target down to the excact coordinates.. you can't really expect them to try to get into man-to-man combat????

When we critize these events.. remember one thing. Our nations are waging a war. This is spoils of the war.

and what the interest really is by these attacks is to fill you with fear. But.. chances of getting hit by a car or that you die from cancer is things you should be way more worried about.

Results should never be to vote for right-wing radical politicians or to look with fear up arab people.. because these things will only make the matter worse.

The only way forward is education and positive debate. It is longterm..

Coming from India, we have been at the receiving end of terrorism and violence for more than 15 years! in March 1993,in a single day, more than 600 people died in a series of blasts rocked Mumbai city, and still the perpetrators are at large

Beleive it or not, more people have died in civil wars, terrorism and allied violence in the last 5 years (alone), than the number of people who died in the two world wars put together (leaving out the victims of Hitler's holocaust and the Hiroshima-Nagasaki bombings) - isn't that alarming ?

As far as creation exists there will be conflict, and as far as conflict exists, there will be friction and with friction there will be bloodshed - human beings are incapable of living harmoniously - that might sound cynical, but look at human history - I read a fascinating book "GUNS, GERMS and STEEL" by Jared Diamond, which gives a fantastic account of the rise of civilizations and how some have dominated the others!

Another book "Against All Enemies - Inside America's war on terror" by Richard Clarke is a shocking revelation of mistakes made and which are costing us dear, making the world more unsafe than before

Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely - but will we learn ?

not likely.. judging by history so far.. unless of course we start technologically to alter our nature or some sort of evolution-wise miracle..

Richard Clarke, former chief of antiterror operations for the US, in his book, "Against All Enemies" casually remarks that
between, 1960-1990, both the US and the USSR, individually 'manufactured' 25 odd different strains each of Marburg and Ebola viruses ! isn't that shocking ? while the whole global academic community is trying to find a cure to existing pathogenic spread of diseases, slogging day in and out, with many scientists dedicating their lives to these causes, two
countries, on their personal cold war, were busy manufacturing 25 more of the most deadliest strains mankind has ever known!

That says a lot about how responsible mankind has become!

mankind has never been responsible.. at least not since we have made "organised" civilisations. Only thing that has changed is our vast number and our capability to harm environment even more.. and new technologies will be invented who will be able to cause even more harm than those we have now.

So.. I don't think we have becomed irresponsible.. we are.

I think the only solution to all these problems is the motto "Fatherhood of God and Brotherhood of Man" - that should be the solution for all our travails!

I'm not quite sure if religion is the answer we should be looking for..
seems to me, to cause more trouble than it solves..
not that there is anything wrong with religion.. it just tends to become an excuse for manking in one way or another.. a tool to ward off all responsibility.
A reason to not take a personal opinion.
I'm not a believer myself, though I cannot neglect the fact that there is a chance that there is "something else". If I were a believer I would definately be a gnosticist.. if mankind were thrown out of paradise in the first place.. how can we then trust a bible written by man? This could as well be a work of Satan.. but still... billions of people follow various religious texts without raising the slightest question. This is not our road to salvation.. I can't believe that. If I was God.. I would be testing my followers. I would make the road to salvation complex.. not a thing that people should take for granted, but a hard travel without any easy answers. Only answers you could find within yourself.. not within some bullshit texts written thousands of years ago..

But brotherhood of man.. that is a measure I can agree with.. but as long as there is people there will always be conflict..
