Has anyone noticed that times now are just like when after the stock
market crash of 1929? There are people now who remember the
Great depression and the stories are just like what is happening now.
What do you think?

Judy, you make a good point. According to my father, who lived through the Great Depression of 1929, what we are and have been experiencing is in essence the same phenomenon, but this time around it is on a global level. He also maintains that we refuse to call it by its proper name; namely, a depression. :shake::scold: "A rose by any other name", I guess.

Worth mentioning that things do appear to be getting worse over here. There is talk about reducing taxation to encourage people to earn more. The last time the Conservatives got into power they did this and it did stimulate the economy and also stopped people leaving the country for tax reasons.

Our "present-dent" is trying to do the same thing here ... it's time that our Congress takes action instead of debating it like a dead horse ... that's why we taxpayers pay them to do ... but, they have no worries as Congress has its own retirement plan and medical coverage completely apart from Social Security, and that, imho, is so very wrong.

We need to remove every incumbent in both houses and start again with fresh people ... maybe people who really want to help get this country back on track.

Yes, we have the same problem Lars. it seems that people no longer go into politics for the sake of the country, but to get their snouts in the trough. All MPs should have to have held down a job before being elected and have to rely on public transport and use the state health service

All politicians believe that their primary duty is to get themselves re-elected. Perhaps if they were limited to one term and barred from ever running for another office, were paid the extravagant salary of $1.00 or its equivalent per year (which is more than most now in office are worth) with no pension and no housing we would get representatives who are there because they cared about the nation andthe people. The people need to get off their sofas and step forward to make their displeasure known.
